Happy first of the month! If you’re like me, you’ve probably been dodging fake entertainment news stories all morning. Fortunately, we’re not partaking but instead going to cover the nearly 80 new arrivals on Netflix US for April 1st.

Overall, Netflix in the United States has gained more titles today than lost, with 77 additions and only 70 removals. It’s been a busy few days for licensed TV series, too. In fact, since last Friday, Netflix US has added 548 television episodes (Original and licensed). We checked that figure, and it’s correct – Netflix wants you to spend your time on its platform.

Also, today, Netflix released its second major batch of Milestone Movies, with today’s collection of movies all celebrating their 40th anniversaries on Netflix this year! Highlights of the new collection included Places in the Heart, Firestarter, Moscow on the Hudson, and Repo Man.

Lots more to come throughout the rest of the month! You can find the actual full list of new arrivals coming up for the rest of April 2024 here.

Now let’s get into some highlights:

Top 3 What to Watch Picks on Netflix for April 1st

Molly’s Game (2017)

Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Biography, Crime, Drama
Director: Aaron Sorkin
Cast: Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner
Writer: Aaron Sorkin, Molly Bloom
Runtime: 140 min / 2h 20m

So many great movies were added today, but one that is high up my list of rewatches shortly is Molly’s Game, headlined by Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. I love an excellent high-stakes biopic that mixes business and courtrooms, and this hits both of those points.

Aaron Sorkin is behind the drama that will get you hooked from the off and critics agreed when the movie hit theaters seven years ago. In her AWFJ review, Nell Minow said, “Jessica Chastain shows us both her resolve and her vulnerability, and the scene near the end with Kevin Costner as Bloom’s father is one of the best of the year.”

The Matrix Trilogy

As the first movie celebrates its 25th Anniversary, all three Matrix movies (sadly excluding the anime movie and less so sad that the fourth movie wasn’t included) are back on Netflix US for a limited period again.

Acquiring little introduction, the movie franchise holds up extremely well after all these years, with the first movie in particular being absolute gold throughout its entire runtime.

Sex and the City (Seasons 1-6)

Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis
Writer: Darren Star

Picture: HBO

94 of the 548 episodes we mentioned above come via the latest HBO show addition to Netflix in the form of the critically acclaimed Sex and the City series, which sees all six seasons added today.

The series follows a magazine columnist and her friends living it large in New York City. Initially airing between 1998 and 2004, the show later spawned two movies, a prequel series and a sequel series, which HBO will no doubt hope you’ll want to watch following your binge on Netflix.
