Delicious in Dungeon just wrapped up its first season, consisting of 24 episodes on Netflix. New episodes arrived weekly starting in January 2024. The good news is that a second serving is on the way, with the official channels for the show confirming a season 2.
Created by Studio Trigger, the same team behind Netflix’s BNA: Brand New Animal, the series adapts the fantasy cooking adventure manga series that’s still ongoing to this day, having first started publishing in 2014.
Yoshihiro Miyajima is the director behind the series, and Kimiko Ueno is the writer.
The announcement didn’t come from Netflix but from the show’s official channels (an important distinction), including YouTube (embedded below) and X/Twitter.
“DELICIOUS IN DUNGEON SEASON 2,” reads the Tweet, “Now in production! We want to thank you for supporting Delicious in Dungeon. Please continue to support the series and share your love for the series!”
The renewal shouldn’t be a surprise, as there’s plenty more of the original manga to tell. By our estimate, the season 1 finale roughly brings us up to midway through the eighth volume of the manga series.
Despite the weekly rollout, the series has been a success on Netflix, featuring in the global top 10s for 5 weeks in total, nabbing 11,900,000 viewing hours globally, equating to 7,700,000 total views.
Reacting to the news, Damien Haas said, “Being the English voice of Laios is one of the greatest honors of my life. Congratulations to the cast and crew for an incredible season, and thank you to the audience for all your love and support. Episode 24 is up today on Netflix!”
Although the series has been simulcast, Netflix has been a bit slower in getting all the translations onto the app, with some regions having to wait several days following the first upload to get appropriate subtitles available.
We distinguish who announced the renewal, given that we’ve sometimes seen Netflix Original anime series renewed, with the second season not ultimately licensed to Netflix.
Of course, Netflix has plenty more anime to look forward to for the rest of 2024 and beyond. Just recently, at the Next on Netflix: Animation reveals, the streamer confirmed it’s working on an adaptation of Leviathan scheduled for 2025 and a new anime series called Tokyo Override, due out in late 2024.
