Big Brother Recap: The Cluckster (23×29)

Reviews

A BB icon made his triumphant yearly BB return tonight, and a big wrench was thrown into the initial plan of this weeks Head of Household.

An angry Cookout alliance watched as Tiffany nominated Alyssa and Xavier for eviction. Even though the whole alliance wanted to target Claire, Tiffany was not letting her number one ally go just yet.

Nervous that no one will use the Power of Veto on them, Alyssa and Xavier pondered over who their selections might be for the competition. Xavier pretended that he’s the real target for the week, so that he can keep the Cookout safe, but he knows that no matter who he’s sitting next to, the Cookout will keep him safe.

Tiffany acknowledged to Hannah that they need to prevent Alyssa from winning the Veto competition, because then she’ll have no choice but to nominate Claire, and keep the Cookout’s goal alive.

Alyssa even asked Derek if he would use Veto on her, because she took him off the block when she won the Chopping Block Roulette. Derek lied to her face, and said he would, but he doesn’t want Tiffany to do anything drastic against the Cookout.

Xavier, who is incredibly butt-hurt that he’s on the block again, said he’s preparing to blow Tiffany’s game up by winning the Power of Veto, and using it on Alyssa. He wants to test Tiffany’s loyalty to the Cookout, and make sure that Tiffany sends her best friend home on her HOH.

There was a weird segment where Derek made an advertisement for the random songs the players sing to keep themselves entertained, which was fun, but overstayed its welcome.

For the Veto competition, Hannah, Derek, and Azah were selected to compete alongside Tiffany, Xavier, and Alyssa.

It isn’t a BB season without Zingbot! The incredibly large robot who comes to the BB house to roast the players, and then hosts the Veto competition.

Zingbot made of Alyssa not being the brightest tool in the shed, Xavier’s arrogance and his love for himself, Tiffany being the oldest in the house, Claire walking around the house like Bigfoot, Hannah being “irrelevant” in the house, Derek laying around the house all day, and made shady remarks about Azah’s crush on Xavier. The final dagger of the roast was making fun of Kyland not being able to shut up.

The Veto players had to stack cocktails into a pyramid to win. However, it was the return of last year’s tiny Veto competition, where they had to stack tiny glasses  into a pyramid using a pair of oversized tweezers. It’s an incredibly sensitive competition, because the slightest movement could knock over the glasses, and they have to start over.

At the beginning, Alyssa and Derek were off to the races, almost winning the competition quickly before a slight misstep knocked their tower’s over. Xavier was sweating profusely because he was too focused, and too stressed in this competition.

However, despite the mistakes, Alyssa recovered and won the Power of Veto! This is the exact opposite of what Tiffany wanted, because Alyssa was the main target.

This now brings up the question: where do we go from here? Does Tiffany stick with the alliance that has the common goal of securing the first Black winner, or does she stay a little selfish and betray the alliance before anything can be solidified.

Xavier reveled in Tiffany’s game falling apart, thinking that Tiffany is about to make or break her game based on this new nomination.

While talking to Hannah, Tiffany revealed that she is going to nominate Claire, and that she is going to tell her. She doesn’t want to reveal the Cookout, but she also wants to keep her relationship with Claire, since she’ll be sitting on the jury.

Hannah suggested that Tiffany create a situation that a deal to keep the Cookout members safe for just the week, though there’s some nervousness that that plan could expose the Cookout.

We got to see “the talk” between Claire and Tiffany. Tiffany explained that Alyssa was her main target, but she had personal reasons for not nominating the rest of the Cookout, saying she didn’t ever want to put them up next to each other. This wasn’t necessarily wrong, but Tiffany explained how because of the long history of how people of color and Black players are always put up next to each other, she didn’t ever want to do that until it was absolutely necessary.

Claire was obviously broken about this, but understood, because it’s an important message that Tiffany is trying to do with the game. The casual fans will never understand, but what the Cookout is doing is monumental to the game of Big Brother, and I’m glad that Claire understood, even though she promised not to go down without a fight.

As the episode drew to a close, Tiffany stuck to her word and placed Claire on the block next to Xavier. One of them goes home, but another will soon follow, since it’s Double Eviction Night!

Prediction for the Double Eviction:
The night will start off with Claire being evicted, so she will not get to participate in the events of the Double, but should a Cookout member win that HOH, Alyssa will be the main target. There’s no way the Cookout gets this far and doesn’t follow through on the plan to get them to the final 6. The only way this goes wrong is if Alyssa wins the HOH, or the Veto and removes herself. I would like to see it happen for the chaos it would bring, but we will see once we go live tomorrow!
