The future is never certain.
It’s a long list of trial and error and experiments as we saw on The Resident Season 5 Episode 15.
For Pravesh that was dealing with a patient named Albert who was suffering from lung cancer.
Albert, a self-proclaimed science-nerd, was eager to join the drug trial in hopes of possibly finding a cure or extending his shelf-life.
But when he began to deteriorate with each dose, Pravesh found himself questioning whether he made the right call.
Hawkins assured him that he trusted his patient’s decision, which is all he can really do in this case, and though things looked grim there for a moment, Albert ended up turning a corner.
It’s a tight spot for Pravesh to be in considering he wants good outcomes for both his trial and his patient. They are connected. And yet, when one goes haywire, the other follows suit.
He has a lot riding on this, but even despite wanting his trial to be a success, he never stopped caring or putting the patient first.
It’s more testimony to just how great of a doctor Pravesh really is.
Speaking of great doctors, Devi was championed with making a Conrad Hawkins-sized diagnosis when she connected her patients collapsed lung to endometriosis.
Although it was a very rare complication, Devi never once questioned her gut. She knew what she had to do, and she convinced AJ to take the risk as well.
And she was inspired by Marianna’s bravery and confidence about knowing exactly what she wants out of life, especially when it came to being secure in the fact that she never wanted to have children.
The idea of children has been woven throughout the past few episodes with Leela’s twin sister propositioning her to donate an egg so that she could have a baby.
It has put a lot into perspective for Devi, but her interaction with Marianna proved that she absolutely doesn’t want to have children… at least right now. Her focus is solely on her career.
And while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s not exactly what Pravesh wants to hear either.
The discussion of having kids is never comfortable for a couple that’s on two different pages.
Devi figured that a good compromise would be giving her sister an egg and then freezing some of her own so that she has the safety net while she figures things out.
However, it’s not exactly something Pravesh wants to hear as it still gives him a 50-50 chance of having a family. What if after all these years, Leela makes it in her career and decides she doesn’t actually want kids after making him wait all this time.
Truthfully, it’s not a fair situation for anyone. And no one should be tied to a relationship and forced into having/not having kids.
It’ll only build resentment.
Pravesh isn’t even on the fence about it — he was fully disappointed by Devi’s decision.
Would it be completely crazy of me to think that Pravesh is going to donate the sperm to father Padma’s child.
The discussion of who the father would be was broached, as was the fact that since they are identical twins, the baby would have Leela’s DNA.
Therefore, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to assume that the next step is for Padma and Pravesh to have a child together.
I mean, if you’re going got keep it in the family….
Admittedly, that would likely be the weirdest triangle on television, but it’s also a win-win-win for everyone. That is unless Padma and Pravesh fall in love, but I’m veering wildly off course here.
Bringing it back to the halls of Chastain, Conrad got mixed up with the FBI through no reason of his own.
A young patient died at Chastain and the antipsychotics that he had in his possession were prescribed by Hawkins. Except that Hawkins never saw the patient and had no recollection of writing that scribe.
Cade knew exactly what to do in the situation, which was suspect, so when she was sitting at the FBI office, I wasn’t entirely surprised.
She’s been mum about her identity, but we were bound to find out why she’s been off the grid.
And, well, she has plenty of good reasons. In short, she was trying to help the FBI bring down a pill mill led by the mob when they identified her as an informant. She dodged an attempt on her life, but that doesn’t mean she’s in the clear, which is why she lays low and keeps all private details to herself.
Since Conrad has been brought into the situation, she came clean to him about it, and when he tried to “save her” as Conrad so often does, she pushed him away and told him she doesn’t let anyone get too close because she will disappear.
Now, I know Conrad meant well when he suggested that maybe it’s time for her to stop running, but honestly, this isn’t a relationship that he should be pursuing with a daughter in the picture.
They’ve both endured enough loss. Why poke the bear… or, in this case, the mob?
Let’s allow Cade to remain a mystery. Aren’t there any other great women for him to pursue in Atlanta?
Every scene where Conrad spends time with the “queen of Chastain” brings so much joy into my life.
Nic would’ve been so proud.
So many of these doctors have made such progress since the beginning of the series, and that compliment extends mostly to Dr. Bell, who has turned over a new leaf.
He’s using his position on the state board to do some good. He’s a champion of the people, he’s fighting the good fight even as all the other board members want to turn a blind eye and protect them and their own.
The corruption within the medical industry is truly astounding, especially considering all of these talented doctors are willingly letting others get away with it.
Bell used to be one of those problematic doctors, but five seasons in and he’s become such a bear mostly thanks to his relationship with Kit.
Kit never encouraged him to lie low or stay classy when he brought up his frustrations with the board. She wasn’t surprised about it, but she also wasn’t surprised that Bell was going to raise hell in order to do something about it.
The Raptor has also made some swell progress as he’s accepted that his mother is living out her final days by simply living.
He finally admitted the trial would’ve been too intense and noted that palliative care was the right choice for her.
It’s nice to see him accept the truth, even if it wasn’t what he originally wanted.
There wasn’t a sign of Billie or Trevor this week, but they’ve dealt with their fair share of trauma, so it’s only fair that they’re sitting this one out.
