First ‘Ms. Marvel’ Trailer Shows Teen Hijinks And Offers A Release Date

The first official trailer for the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel is finally here. Along with it came an official release date for the show that’s sooner than some people might have thought.

The trailer kicks off with some classic 80’s music that people these days view as a kind of quintessential high school song. It shows that the show’s protagonist Kamala Khan struggling to make it through her day.

It also appears the show is going to focus on what it can be like for a Muslim-American teen to make it in a Jersey City school, considering at one point she has to correct someone on the pronunciation of her name. The way she does it makes it very clear she’s had to do that kind of thing before.

Ms. Marvel Gets Stylistic Trailer

Perhaps one of the most interesting tidbits is that this Disney+ series might stand out from some of the others. With thought bubbles apparently popping up every now and then, and some actions being accompanied by illustrations, the show is definitely going to have some fanciful aspects to it.

Think a live-action Into the Spiderverse and a Scott Pilgrim mashup.

Of course, the show isn’t just about a young girl making it through high school. Kamala is also a big time super hero groupie who also happens to find a way to get powers of her own.

The Ms. Marvel name comes from the fact that she’s a massive fan of Carol Danvers and Captain Marvel.

While the comic book character who also starred in the video game Marvel’s Avengers has gotten her powers several different ways, it appears there’s now MCU canon that people can lean on.

In the trailer, we see her put on an armband, her eyes glow purple and she’s got a superhero.

When Is It Coming?

Ms. Marvel will be next in line to debut after the Oscar Isaac-fronted MCU series “Moon Knight.” That show premieres March 30 on Disney+ with new episodes rolling out weekly.

Kamala Kan will then land on the streaming platform on June 8. Later this year, other new Marvel series coming to Disney+ include She-Hulk and the limited series Secret Invasion which stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

The new series not only introduces Khan but sets up the Captain Marvel feature film sequel The Marvels, in which Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau from WandaVision. Are set to team up.

The MCU has made it very clear that the Disney+ series and its movies are very closely linked and it appears that the upcoming series is no exception. One question that does remain is whether Ms. Marvel is planned as a limited series. The lack of info there could mean it’s set for more than one season.
