‘GH’ Michael Easton Talks Nervous Breakdown & Self-Medication

TV Shows

Michael Easton just left General Hospital. Michael has been playing Finn since 2016, and it is now time to say goodbye. Finn left Port Charles and his family, and there were plenty of tears. Nothing was more emotional than Finn saying goodbye to Jophielle Love, the youngest character on the show.

Now that he has said goodbye. Michael joined General Hospital’s Maurice Bernard for a podcast interview and went into a lot of personal details. Here is what you need to know.

Michael Easton Leaves General Hospital

Michael Easton’s reason for leaving General Hospital is that Finn is checking into rehab for no less than 90 days. The moment on GH when little Violet (Love) hugged him and said “I can help you stop drinking alcohol,” it was heartbreaking. For Easton, it really hit him hard as well.

“This is the hardest goodbye of all for me,” Easton wrote on Instagram after the show aired. “Jophielle, you are pure magic and you are going to do amazing things in this life. Go forward with rainbows in your heart and know that I will never forget you.”

On the show, Finn showed up as a disease specialist at the hospital. He had a daughter (Violet) with Hayden (Rebecca Budig) and began dating Anna (Finola Hughes) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). However, Finn was also a recovering drug addict, but it crept back up and cost him custody of Violet, and now sees him headed to rehab and off the show.

Michael Easton Talks Breakdown & Drug Addiction Issues

Michael Easton followed up his General Hospital exit with an in-depth conversation with Maurice Bernard. Of course, Bernard plays Sonny on General Hospital, and his podcast State of Mind is all about bringing awareness to mental health issues.

Sonny is bipolar because Maurice is also bipolar, and he is open about his mental health and about people getting help for their own issues. For Easton, he talked about his character’s addiction issues and how it relates to his own personal life.

He shared he suffered some big losses in his life. He said his mother died when he was young, and he had what he considers to be a breakdown. He also says he didn’t know at the time he was suffering the breakdown and tried to self-medicate to numb the pain and suppress it.

He then shockingly said he never dealt with that pain for 25 or 30 years. He then said he is now the same age his mother was when she died. He said he doesn’t feel old, but it has made this a very reflective year for him. He said he is looking back and is ashamed of how he acted when she died. He didn’t treat people well and ran from those who wanted to help him.

“It’s all a lof of trial and error,” he finishes.
