He believes that there are lots of people struggling with their mental health. He also believes that there are plenty of people who hide it because they feel embarrassed. It appears that the comedy veteran believes his opening up about his problems will help others.
Howie Mandel Reveals Going Insane During Lock Down
The funnyman was on TMZ Live Wednesday to talk about his new show Bullsh*t the Game Show. However, before he started talking about his new show, he opened up about his intense struggle with the coronavirus.
At least part of the reason he struggled is when the disease hit. It was during his first public outing after the lockdowns started to recede. He caught it after attending the Kids’ Choice Awards.
Howie Mandel made it clear the physical symptoms weren’t bad. It was the collateral damage to his mental health that was real. He’s a big proponent of talking about these struggles. He even thinks it definitely has helped him navigate troubled waters.
During the pandemic, he’s often talked about his struggles. He even once half-jokingly said his own mental health crisis has propelled his therapist into a higher tax bracket.
He’s also previously talked about a documentary he did about his struggles. Howie Mandel: But, Enough About Me exposes the extreme difficulty he’s had as a germaphobe, and how his issues magnified during the lockdown.
Things weren’t exactly perfect even before the pandemic hit. There was one period of time where his wife told him he needed to go to therapy, or they were going to get divorced. It appears that he did acquiesce and is seeking help for his problems.
Tough Year All The Way Around
Things haven’t been easy for Howie Mandel outside of lockdown either. He’s seen the death of several friends over the last few years. Comedy giants that fans might have been sad about but didn’t know personally, were indeed good friends to the funny man.
The America’s Got Talent judge has had to deal with Bob Saget and Gilbert Gottfried passing away. Norm McDonald also died late last year. That can’t have been easy on his mental health either.
At the same time, while he’s had some struggles it appears as though he is coping with things. He’s working hard and talking about what happened. And while Howie Mandel might have felt like he was going insane he seems like he’s got a handle on it at the moment.
