As a busy mom, she’s had to come up with systems and routines to make her home run smoothly. In a new interview on GMA3, she opened up about how she and her husband, Deon Derrico, do it all.

As TLC viewers know, the Derricos certainly have their hands full. Many of their fans can’t imagine having 14 kids under one roof, but Deon and Karen have a system down to make sure it all works. They even homeschool, which proves to be challenging at times due to the kids’ age differences.

Karen Derrico spills her parenting secrets.
On Friday, July 7, Karen, Deon, and their whole family made an appearance on GMA3. During the interview, Karen offered some insight into her parenting strategy. She explained that she’s big on using a planner, which helps her to organize her thoughts. Instead of filling her mind with everything she has going on, she can write it all down. Getting it on paper is a game-changer for the mama of 14.
Something else they’ve done is make sure their kids are in bed by 8 p.m. each night. Darian, their oldest, is the only one allowed to stay up past 8 p.m. This gives Deon and Karen time to recover from a busy day and prepare for the next day. She also runs her own boutique, so she has a lot on her plate once the kids go to bed. Because of so many responsibilities, Karen Derrico said they have to “run a tight ship.”
While on GMA3, Karen gave her supportive husband a shoutout, particularly pointing out how he helps out financially.
While fans can see that things aren’t always easy for the Doubling Down With the Derricos family, they have figured out how to make it work. Their kiddos are well-loved and their house is full of joy, as viewers know. Hopefully, other families will benefit from Karen’s words of wisdom as a very experience mom of 14.
