Katy Perry Can Never Sing This Song Again Due To Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson’s covers of other artist’s songs have been getting a lot of attention lately. Her most recent rendition of one of Katy Perry’s greatest hits has the American Idol judge questioning if she should ever sing the song again. Several other musicians chimed in with their support as well. Keep reading to see what song they’re talking about and what got Kelly Clarkson started doing cover songs.

Kelly Clarkson & Katy Perry Have Worked Together In The Past

While Kelly Clarkson has plenty of her own hit songs, she started a segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show called “Kellyoke.” In the segment, she performs a cover of another artist’s song.

She released an official Kellyoke EP, which featured a number of her own personal favorites in June 2022. At the time, she said that she enjoyed performing covers and believed that Kellyoke was “the perfect way to kick off every episode” of her talk show. “Over 500 songs later, and we’re still not running out of amazing artists to pay tribute to,” she said.

Some of her most notable covers include songs by The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus. However, now one of Katy Perry’s tunes is going down as one of Clarkson’s best renditions.

In the past, Kelly has covered other Katy Perry songs. She sang “The One That Got Away” last year and “Roar” in 2019 for Kellyoke. “Long Shot,” which was featured on Kelly’s 2009 album All I Ever Wanted, was also written by Katy Perry.

Those songs are not what has Katy wanting to stop performing her tune. Last week, Kelly Clarkson covered one of Katy Perry’s most popular songs “Wide Awake.”

Fans & Stars Go Crazy Over Kelly’s Cover Of ‘Wide Awake’

When The Kelly Clarkson Show shared the clip of the host singing Katy’s song, several other artists flocked to the comments to show their support. Fellow American Idol alum Adam Lambert commented on the Instagram post with several black heart emojis.

Breakout Barbie, who hosts Drag Race Germany, commented, “Whoever said ‘once kelly covers your song, it‘s no longer your song. She makes it her own and you never get it back. She‘s that good.’ was right.” Another person concurred, writing, “so sorry my sister Katy. what’s done is done.”

Several other people said that the song “never sounded better” and many commented that they were moved by the rendition. The comment that really stood out was Katy Perry’s though. “Ok dang I can never sing that again,” she joked underneath the clip.

A number of fans commented asking when there would be a “Kellyoke” tour and if any of Kelly Clarkson’s covers would be uploaded to Spotify. Others pointed out that she can make anything sound beautiful. “Girl could sing the phone book, so she could. Beautiful!” one person wrote.
