Real Reason MSNBC Anchor Joy Reid Was Fired

Joy Reid has been part of MSNBC for years now, notably through her series, The ReidOut. However, Reid is expected to be leaving the network quite soon. Notably, Reid isn’t the only MSNBC host being impacted by a recent series of changes coming to the network. These changes are also said to be reflective of a larger issue impacting the network.

Joy Reid’s Final MSNBC Episode Is Said To Be Airing Soon

While starting her career in the late 1990s, Reid got her start with MSNBC in the 2010s. Reid is arguably best known for hosting The ReidOut, as well as The Reid Report and AM Joy beforehand.

While The ReidOut has been going on for a few years now, it’s been reported that the show will soon air its final episode. Notably, Reid’s show isn’t the only one impacted by these recent changes.

As noted by The Express U.S., it was noted that Reid is currently hosting the 7 PM slot. However, at the time, it was said that she would air her final episode this week. The publication cited low ratings for the change.

At this point, it’s believed that Reid’s slot will be taken up by a panel show for the time being. The current replacement will feature Symone Sanders Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele as co-hosts.

Reid isn’t the only one impacted by these changes. Another MSNBC host, Alex Wagner, used to host the network’s 9 PM slot. However, the publication noted it’s also unlikely she would return.

However, new names are also set to be joining the network. Eugene Daniels of Politico and attorney Melissa Murray are reportedly in talks with joining the MSNBC family.

Significant Historical Events Weren’t Enough To Recently Help MSNBC In The Ratings

Reportedly, these changes are coming from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler. This is all in response to a recent drop in ratings for the network. Notably, the network was said to have had “its lowest-rated January ever in the 25-54 demographic.”

It was noted that, “Between 8-11 p.m. MSNBC struggled to attract an audience of 734,000. During the day, the network only managed to draw in 45,000 viewers, and just 63,000 during peak night hours.”

As the publication noted, this means the network lost around half of its viewers from the 25-54 age group since last year. This also notably happened in spite of significant new events, including President Trump being re-elected or Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation.

This also follows MSNBC President Rashida Jones’ departure. As Jones was quoted, “I shared this decision with Mark (Lazarus), who has been incredibly supportive and has asked me to stay on for the next few months to help guide the network during this transitional period.”
