Disney+ is gearing up to release another original series called Renegade Nell, starring Louisa Harland as the titular character who finds herself on the run after being framed for murder in 18th-century England. The eight-episode series will premiere on Disney+ worldwide in Spring 2024. The series also stars Nick Mohammed, Frank Dillane, Jake Dunn, Adrian Lester, Alice Kremelberg, Joely Richardson, and more.
The period drama has a supernatural/fantasy twist along with a murder mystery theme, with Nell meeting a spirit named Billy Blind who tells her that she must learn about her fate before it’s too late. Along the way, Nell must figure out who the murderer really is and who is framing her. Disney+ has released some sneak peek photos of the new series, showing off the incredible costumes and makeup. BAFTA-award winner Sally Wainwright is the show’s creator and writer, and it is directed by Ben Taylor. The pair have already worked together on successful shows such as Happy Valley and Sex Education.
The first look images feature Harland as Nell, dressed in baggy clothes and standing in front of a carriage that has been wrecked. She looks shocked as she holds a pistol, pointing it toward the ground. Another shot features Mohammed as a sprite in colorful clothes with fluttering wings. The rest of the images feature Kremelberg as a young widow named Sofia Wilmot, Richardson as newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger, Dunn as Sofia’s brother Thomas, Lester as the Earl of Poynton, and Dillane as Charles Devereux, all in gorgeous period costumes. Each episode will reportedly be 45 minutes long.
There is currently no trailer available quite yet, so fans will have to be pleased with the sneak peek photos for now. Disney+ is available with plans starting at $7.99 per month with ads.
