Kody Brown mentioned he was out of his home when he was 18, and his broken relationship with his sons is history repeating itself. He has 18 children, and he doesn’t have a close relationship with many of them. One reason Kody struggles with his boys is that he almost demands they be out of the house when they turn 18.
Kody’s dad was mainstream LDS and when his son came back from a mission, his dad had another wife. Soon, he pushed Kody out the door, and that is what he has now done with his boys. Kody said that he and his dad didn’t have a good relationship, and now that happened in his life with his sons. He wondered if his relationship with his sons might be different if he had a better relationship with his own dad.

Redditors seemed to sympathize slightly with Kody Brown after these comments. However, they agreed with him only to an extent. “I so glad he finally said it! I have been thinking this for years,” one Redditor wrote when starting a thread about the comments from Sister Wives. “He never once has said the older girls should be out on their own at 18 only the boys. He wants the unquestionable blind respect from his sons that he gave his father.”
This led to a lot of people wondering about Kody’s life as a child. One listed some things that created the man that Kody became. This included a father who wasn’t a nurturing man who never bonded with his son. They also said this created Kody’s “little man syndrome” and led to him becoming a polygamist to make his father proud. Another mentioned it was after Kody’s dad died that he became to question the lifestyle.
However, others wouldn’t give Kody a break. One Redditor said they can’t feel sorry for him and labeled him a narcissist. “Kody is very ignorant in my opinion and can’t stand that his sons are so much more intelligent,” they wrote. This led to many people saying Kody can’t have any competition for his wives, not even from his sons.
