The cast of The Walking Dead is mourning the loss of a member of the show’s family. Seven, the canine actor who played the role of Dog on the show, has died. The death was confirmed by The Walking Dead’s official social media pages on Thursday. Several of the AMC show’s stars shared their own posts about the beloved pup. Keep reading to see what each of them had to say about Seven.

The news was also shared on X. The official page for The Walking Dead shared a photo of Seven alongside Melissa McBride, who plays Carol on the show. In the caption, the show’s reps wrote, “All dogs go to heaven. Rest in peace, Seven.”

Another member of The Walking Dead cast chimed in on the devastating loss. Lynn Collins, better known as Leah on TWD, was Dog’s first owner on the show. She wrote in the comments, “Oh noooooo” with a crying emoji on Instagram.

What Made Seven Such A Great Working Dog

Seven was a Belgian Malinois. He first joined the AMC show as Dog in Season 9.

David Boyd, who directed the episode “Find Me” that dove into Dog’s background, said that he was skeptical that the canine would do a good job. When they first started working with Seven, he was hesitant. He admitted that he thought it would take 19 hours or more to get any good footage with the dog and didn’t believe that Seven would follow directions.

The dog swiftly proved him wrong though. He was nothing but professional on the set. They started filming and only needed one take to get things right. It was amazing to David Boyd.

Belgian Malinoises are a type of herding dog. They thrive when they have a job to perform, but the danger with them is that they don’t know how to give up. If they are tasked with something, they see it through to the end, even if that end means certain death.

Seven was fiercely loyal and, as evidenced by his costars’ reactions, he was loved by everyone on the set of The Walking Dead.
