Things seem to be going well for Yellowstone actor Kevin Costner. That doesn’t mean that everything is going perfectly. Even someone as respected as the veteran star gets snubbed every now and then.
That might be a bit shocking to some of his fans. There are some who might think that anyone who decides to snub the Dances With Wolves alum is ending their careers. People who cross Kevin Costner tend not to tell the tale. He’s played enough of those characters on television and in the films that assume he’s a scary personality on and off set.
He might even be that person to some people. But that doesn’t mean he can’t get the short end of the stick sometimes. He certainly did most recently, with a new project he was hoping to be attached to in the new future.
Yellowstone Star Finds Some Bad Luck
If the man who plays John Dutton was looking to leave Yellowstone, it appears one of his potential exits just closed. A pilot the actor was attached to with the ABC network wasn’t picked up. Despite being involved with the new show National Parks Investigation, the network has decided to move in a new direction.
That direction is without Kevin Costner, surprisingly.

National Parks Investigation, which would apparently be a crime drama similar to something like NCIS is something the actor has been pushing for a while. However, according to The Express, the network likes the idea. It just doesn’t like Kevin Costner leading the project.
The new take on the show will be written and executive produced by 9-1-1: Lone Star executive producer Rashad Raisani. It’s possible the network simply wanted someone who is a veteran of these kinds of programs. It is quite odd it decided that the Yellowstone star doesn’t understand what it would take to put love and attention into a series that focuses on … Yellowstone.
National Parks Procedural
Rashad’s pilot has been described as a soapy procedural set in the world of America’s national parks. It will revolve around the tangled and quite messy lives of agents who work for the Investigative Services Branch (ISB).
ISB agents are elite law-enforcement officers of the National Park Service who are responsible for solving all serious crimes that take place in the country’s national parks.
He will executive produce the pilot with A+E Studios’ Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson and produce it with 20th Television.
It’s not entirely clear how the Yellowstone veteran’s vision for the show differed. By all accounts, Kevin Costner’s version was also a procedural. For now, he’s going to have to look elsewhere if he wants to start on a new project that doesn’t involve the famous Dutton ranch.
