Mark-Paul Gosselaar Says He Didn’t Get the Invite for Saved By the Bell Revival

Breaking News

Mark-Paul Gosselaar didn’t get the memo about that Saved By the Bell revival. The actor, who is set to lead Mixed-ish this fall, says he wasn’t invited to appear on the recently announced sequel series starring Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, Variety reports.

“I read it in the trades just like everybody else this morning,” Gosselaar told Variety. “Honestly, I was never approached. I woke up to the news this morning with a kind of ‘huh’ response.”

According to the trade, Gosselaar is just as confused as you are about why he wasn’t considered for the forthcoming project but is still down to reprise his iconic role as Zack Morris if NBC ever gets around to asking him. Pulling that off might be difficult, though, given that he now stars on a show on a competing network. “I’m on ABC, so it doesn’t really fit into that considering Disney Plus, so I understand the business side of things,” Gosselaar added. “But I had no idea it was that far along.”

The Saved By the Bell revival will reportedly be set at a time when Zack Morris is governor of California and becomes embroiled in a scandal after closing too many low-income schools. To assuage his angry constituents, he suggests sending displaced kids to wealthier schools like his old alma mater, Bayside High. By that time, AC and Jessie would already have been parents and likely affected by Morris’ big political move. The project comes from Great News‘s Tracey Wigfield.

The project’s synopsis certainly leaves room for a Gosselaar cameo, but whether or not NBC will actually make that happen remains to be seen.
