Outlander may be coming to an end, but its prequel series is just heating up.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which tells the story of how the parents of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) met — in more ways than one — surprised fans in 2025 who were skeptical that anything could capture the sweeping romance of the Scottish-set early years of the mothership series. But the prequel, inspired the works of original author Diana Gabaldon, was a hit with most of the fanbase and proved that Jamie and Claire’s story isn’t the only one that can get hot and heavy in the Highlands.

But how long do fans have to wait for Season 2 and what can they expect as the original series comes to an end? Here’s everything to know about Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

When does Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 premiere?

Outlander fans know all too well how to make it through a Droughtlander, but thankfully this next one won’t be too bad, relatively speaking. With Outlander‘s series finale set for May 15, Starz has confirmed that fans will only have to wait until fall 2026 for Season 2 of Blood of My Blood. No specific date is set yet, but two seasons from the Outlander universe in one year? Unheard of! Even more unheard of: Season 1 premiered in August 2025, so there could be only about a year’s wait between series premieres.

Where did Outlander: Blood of My Blood leave off?

In the Season 1 finale, the two main couples found themselves on the run from two different forces. Jamie’s parents, Brian (Jamie Roy) and Ellen (Harriet Slater), fled her family’s Castle Leoch after her spurned betrothed Malcolm Grant (Jhon Lumsden) tried to fight Brian and caught a sword to the stomach. With blood on their hands, they ran off into the Highlands, with a plan to escape and never look back. But when he sees the fiery crosses of the Jacobite rebellion lit in the distance, he must choose whether to go back and join his family, or leave and never be allowed back in the Highlands for shirking his duties.

Meanwhile, the chaos of the disastrous wedding at Castle Leoch provides ample cover for Claire’s time-traveling parents, Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry (Jeremy Irvine), to take their son and head for the hills. Their plan to reach Craigh na Dun and pass through the stones again hits a few snags, and when they arrive with assailants on their heels, Henry makes a rash decision to make Julia touch the rock while he waits to see if their son can time hop, just in case he needs a defender in the 18th century once mom is gone. Does Julia pass through, and does their son go with her? Only Season 2 can tell.

Just to assure fans that they won’t be without the world of Outlander for too long, Starz got ahead of the OG series’ final episode and dropped a teaser and two photos for Blood of My Blood Season 2 on April 16. The photos didn’t do much in the way of spoilers, simply showing the two couples in the exact place the story left them –– Julia and Henry at the stones (though in what time?), and Ellen and Brian embracing in what looks like a secluded barn of sorts. But the 40-second teaser trailer does go into a slightly more detail, showing glimpses at a few key stories ahead.

Following in the footsteps of their son’s future romance, which is constantly separated by time and distance, Ellen’s voiceover reveals she and Brian may also be spending some of Season 2 apart. “You will come back to me,” she says longingly, paired with a shot of her alone on a grassy Scottish hilltop. Brian seemingly chooses to fight alongside his kin with the Jacobite cause, as we also see a scene where he is charging into battle alongside Dougal (Sam Retford) and Murtagh (Rory Alexander). Meanwhile, a smiling Julia and Henry are seen in the future with a young Claire, but is that a flashback, a hallucination, or did they really return to their lives through the stones? Given that Outlander loves a curveball, fans should probably brace for one on that front. But without Gabaldon’s books as a guide (she has said she is working on a prequel book for this story), there’s no telling where this story could go.

Who is in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2?

“Double the couples, double the fun” is the philosophy at the root of Blood of My Blood. At its core, it stars Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy as Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Brian, respectively. Orbiting their origin story is Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine as Claire’s time-traveling parents, Julia and Henry, respectively. Beyond the core four, a number of recognizable Outlander characters show up in their younger years. Rory Alexander plays Brian’s devoted cousin Murtagh, while Séamus McLean Ross and Sam Retford play Ellen’s brothers Colum and Dougal MacKenzie, respectively. Sadhbh Malin appears throughout Season 1 as Ellen’s sister Jocasta MacKenzie Cameron, with Ailsa Davidson as their sister Janet MacKenzie. Peter Mullen appeared briefly as Red Jacob MacKenzie, but Anne, his wife and mother to his children, has not yet appeared.

On Brian’s side of the family tree, Tom Curran plays his ruthless father Simon Fraser and Sara Vickers plays his housemaid mother Davina, who finds her voice against her vicious master. Also appearing is Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan, the secretary of Castle Leoch and sage advisor to the MacKenzie brothers. Two key figures in the Grant family won’t be returning for Season 2 though. Malcolm Grant, played by Jhon Lumsden, and his fearsome father Isaac Grant, played by Brian McCardie, both died in Season 1. The latter actor also passed away in real life in 2024. As of April 2025, no new cast members have been announced for Season 2.

When did Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 film?

In a great show of confidence for the series, Blood of My Blood Season 2 was already ordered by Starz and in production when Season 1 premiered in fall 2025. In fact, the cast did press interviews from the set in some cases. In December 2025, Roy announced on Instagram that Season 2 had wrapped filming, but no word yet on if they are getting a jump on Season 3 as well.

How does Outlander: Blood of My Blood relate to Outlander?

Relate is the key word there. Of course, the two main couples will have direct contributions to the original love story as the parents of Jamie and Claire. There is also the wild card of what in the world happens to Claire’s parents, who she and the audience were told died when she was five. So their story is all new material that could lead just about anywhere. But beyond that, it is still unclear if the two shows will ever intersect in any substantial way on screen, besides Blood of My Blood bringing to life the younger versions of the original series’ beloved characters. But hey, this is a show about time travel. Anything and any time is possible!
