Gargoyles will not be returning to the small screen. A live-action reboot for the popular animated series is not moving forward at Disney+. The reboot has been in development since 2023. The original series aired for three seasons between 1994 and 1997.
According to Deadline, the animated series’ co-creator, Greg Weisman, revealed that the project was not happening. He said, “That’s dead. I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live-action.”
The following was revealed about the plot of the live-action series:
“Based on the cult classic Disney animated series, the reboot was to have centered around Goliath, the last of a heroic race of gargoyle warriors who once lived among mankind. Free from a centuries long curse that turned him into stone, Goliath struggles to solve the mystery of his past while watching over modern-day New York City alongside police detective Elisa Maza.”
