Showtime has cancelled its plans for the new Seasoned TV series and a reboot of Gattaca, per THR. The cancellations come as the cable network’s programming was folded into the Paramount+ streaming service this week.

A reboot of the 1997 film of the same name, the Gattaca series project was written by Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa, and Craig Borten. The story was to focus on a generation after the events of the movie, in a time when science and humanity have evolved to the point where humans can direct their own evolution. Sony Pictures Television is now shopping the project to other outlets. The fact that Showtime does not own the project makes it more expensive for the cable channel to produce.

As for Seasoned, the series was given a six-episode order in April. Starring Mandy Patinkin and his wife, Kathryn Grody, the series is inspired by their own lives and marriage. The couple’s son, Gideon Grody-Patinkin, and Ewen Wright co-created the series. It tells the story of the relationship and life of a successful, gregarious, deeply committed, slightly insane married couple.  It is not known if the series will land on another outlet.

Under Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Media Networks at Paramount, Showtime will focus on content in three lanes: anti-heroes, powerful worlds, and diverse cultures. The cable network is investing in properties it already owns and is turning familiar shows like Billions and Dexter into franchises.

What do you think? Did you plan to watch these two shows when they eventually arrived on Showtime? Would you like to see them find new homes?
