“Netflix Effect” and Critical Reception

If there’s one thing Netflix is incredibly good at, it’s pushing older media back into the cultural zeitgeist.

Since Netflix officially greenlit the series, Penguin Classics reported a nearly 200% increase in book sales across all formats. Following this weekend’s release, the “Netflix bump” shifted into overdrive: John Steinbeck’s original novel reached the No. 1 spot on the Amazon Best Sellers List. Furthermore, the audiobook has successfully captured the younger demographic, landing on the retail giant’s “Best of #BookTok” list.
