After strong global viewership results in early 2025, Netflix announced that Guillaume Canet’s Franck would return in a new sequel to the hit action movie. Here are all the details announced by Netflix, with the main cast and most of the creative team returning.
It is one of the undisputed successes on the French line-up for 2025: action movie Ad Vitam delivered thrills and a rare action role for star Guillaume Canet, also credited as a co-writer and executive/creative producer on the project; he also did most of his own stunts. In the first semester of 2025, the adventures of former elite GIGN agent Franck found an echo with 70 million views worldwide; the movie ranked 9th in the most-watched non-English movies globally. Ad Vitam also ended the year with 80 million views.
All of this success was enough to trigger talks of a sequel, as Canet was open to returning during the promotion of the first movie, joking that he was in fine enough shape to do more stunts “before getting arthritis”. But after that, radio silence, as the in-demand star was focused on the post-production of his new movie as director, Karma, which will be released this fall in French theaters.
…Until now. Netflix announced today that the sequel Ad Vitam Eternam (sic, working title) is in production in France, in various areas such as Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France area, Savoie (French Alps area), Normandy and Provence-Alpes-Côte-D’Azur.
What is Ad Vitam Eternam (working title) about?
Per the streamer:
After surviving an assassination attempt upon his release from prison, Franck sets out to find out who wants him dead. He goes to hide away with his family in the mountains. But French intelligence services track him down and offer him a deal: a covert mission in exchange for the truth Franck is seeking.
Who is returning for the sequel?
Zita Hanrot is one of the confirmed returns for the Ad Vitam sequel. Cr : Netflix.
The cast will obviously include Guillaume Canet as Franck, alongside confirmed cast members Stéphane Caillard, Nassim Lyes and Zita Hanrot.
The new additions are all well-known French stars: Nicolas Duvauchelle, most known to Netflix subscribers as antagonist Areski Novak in the three Lost Bullet movies, but also in the first season of Blood Coast. Sophie Marceau is a veteran actress with many hits and awards to her name, as well as many international movies (Braveheart, The World Is Not Enough…). Finally, Mathieu Amalric is a character actor who is also a veteran of both French and English-speaking productions (The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, Munich, Quantum Of Solace). For all three additions, their roles have yet to be revealed.
Of course, there’s some James Bond alumni here, with Marceau having appeared in The World Is Not Enough and Amalric having appeared as Dominic Greene in Quantum of Solace.

Guillaume Canet will once again coproduce through his Cabanes Productions with Jean Cottin; he cowrote the script with Maxime Chattam (a best-selling French author) with the collaboration of David Corona. The directing duties are handed over to Ludovic Colbeau-Justin, who keeps working in the Netflix fold; he directed half of the first season of big-budget adventure series Néro, and codirected movie Nothing To Lose alongside Nawell Madani. That project was released globally in July.
When will Ad Vitam Eternam (wt) be released?
It’s a safe bet to expect the movie in late 2027, or even early 2028, as the original Ad Vitam movie was released in January of 2025. As always, we will update this story once new elements surface.
