Pictures: Netflix
After years of anticipation, rumors, and waiting, Netflix has officially nudged open (ever so slightly) the wardrobe day. Today, the streamer surprise dropped our very first official look at Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation, alongside a brand new animated logo.
The newly released assets are the very first official pieces of marketing we’ve seen for the upcoming fantasy epic, currently titled Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Netflix shared a short video featuring the new animated logo, followed by a stunning behind-the-scenes shot of writer-director Greta Gerwig on set. In the BTS image, Gerwig is seen bundled up in a heavy tweed coat, intently watching the action unfold next to an ARRI film camera. In the background, we can see vintage cars, extras in period-accurate turn-of-the-century attire, and what looks to be a beautifully crafted, practical London street set, something we’ve been sharing for quite some time throughout production taking place in 2025.

If you’ve been following our coverage, you’ll know this project has been a massive undertaking for Netflix. As we, the film’s release was officially pushed back, and is now slated to hit theaters worldwide on February 10th, 2027.
The long post-production runway makes sense given the sheer scale of the film. As we outlined in our expansive cast list breakdown, the movie boasts a star-studded lineup including Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Emma Mackey, David McKenna, and Beatrice Campbell. We’ve still got more cast members up our sleeves to cover in the coming months.
Test Screenings Reveal “Mixed” Early Reactions and Practical Effects Focus
While the marketing machine is just waking up, the movie itself has been busy making the rounds behind closed doors.
Our friends over at NarniaWeb just published an intriguing report detailing a new private test screening scheduled for later this month in Nashville, Tennessee. According to the invite, the screening gives audiences a chance to “experience the creation of Narnia” and witness the “wild and unlimited imagination” of Gerwig’s vision for C.S. Lewis’s beloved origin story.
Interestingly, the questionnaire sent to potential Nashville attendees asked if they had seen and enjoyed a very specific list of comp movies, including The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, Wicked, Barbie, Wonka, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. NarniaWeb rightly points out that this eclectic mix of fantasy adventure and musical properties lines up with early rumors that Gerwig’s take features strong rock-and-roll influences and a heavy emphasis on practical creature effects (hence the Labyrinth and NeverEnding Story comparisons).
But how is the movie actually playing?
NarniaWeb noted that previous screenings in New York and New Jersey have yielded mixed reactions. This is what we’ve heard from multiple sources as well. We’ve heard independently from several Netflix insiders and people who have attended these early screenings, and word on the street is that reactions to the movie so far are very mixed, with “boring” often being used albeit many saying the movie is very faithful to the books, although the usual caveats that everyone’s tastes are different and that the movie is not done.
These are unfinished cuts with rough, temporary visual effects. The entire purpose of testing a CGI-heavy fantasy epic this early is to find out what isn’t working so the filmmakers have time to fix it before 2027.
With our first official look finally out in the wild, we’re hoping a teaser trailer isn’t too far behind.
