Netflix was starting 2024 off strong with the news that the streaming service US will pick up multiple seasons of the Starz Original series Black Sails from January 1st, 2024. However, it didn’t arrive with our understanding that the series would instead arrive later in 2024. We can now confirm that all four seasons of the series are scheduled to arrive on Netflix in April 2024.
From executive producer Michael Bay, Black Sails is the historical drama series that serves as a prequel set 20 years prior to the beloved 1883 novel Treasure Island. It ran on Starz as an Original series for four seasons across 38 episodes between 2014 and 2017.
The series scored 3 Primetime Emmy wins throughout its runtime and remains a hit among fans, with it currently carrying an impressive 8.2 on IMDb. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a mix of One Piece for its slavish ships and sets mixed with the historical drama and action of The Last Kingdom.
Amongst the vast ensemble cast for the show featured Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Toby Schmitz, and many more.
When will Black Sails be on Netflix?
Multiple seasons were meant to be coming to Netflix US on January 1st, 2024. The exact number of seasons coming to the service at the time wasn’t confirmed, but we suspect it would’ve been all four.
The release date has been present within the Netflix app for multiple weeks. However, as we got closer, Netflix has now removed the date from the page. We captured a screenshot of the original date release below:

Sadly, release dates are often subject to change, and this looks like one of those times. It happened more recently with Martin, which eventually dropped in March 2024.
We can now report, however, that seasons 1-4 of Black Sails will be arriving on Netflix in the United States on April 17th, 2024.
The show is expected to continue to reside on the Starz streaming service and we don’t currently know if the series will be streaming or will eventually be streamed on Netflix in international regions.
Netflix in the US doesn’t have access to many Starz titles like it used to. Netflix US has previously held titles like Ash Vs. Evil Dead and Spartacus, while Netflix internationally carried Power. One significant exception is Outlander (although that’s licensed from Sony Pictures Television), with new seasons coming two years after their original air date. Season 6 of Outlander is due to release in 2024.
