Netflix’s investment in Polish productions continues to bear fruit, and this November, we’ll be treated to a gripping new 4-part drama series, The Law of Beasts (Polish title Prawo bestii). Helmed by Kasper Bajon—the creative force behind some of Netflix Poland’s biggest hits like High Water and The Mire—the series will drop globally on November 18th, 2026.
Let’s dive into what you need to know about the new limited series, including its real-life inspirations, who is starring, and your first look at the new title.
What is The Law of Beasts about?
Inspired by true events that shocked the nation and ultimately led to the creation of Poland’s controversial “Beast Law” (ustawa o bestiach), The Law of Beasts explores the devastating intersection of justice, friendship, and the rule of law.
The narrative spans two distinct timelines:
- 1988: Poland is rocked by the horrific murder of four young boys. Major Anna Bersz leads the intense investigation, while her close friend, psychiatrist Agnieszka Grabska, is tasked with evaluating the sanity of the prime suspect, Mariusz Trynkiewicz. Under immense pressure from a system that leaves no room for doubt, the two women make a fateful decision that destroys their friendship and alters the course of their lives forever.
- 2014: Twenty-five years later, the convicted killer’s sentence is coming to an end, meaning he is slated for release. Anna, now a government official, and Agnieszka, a highly respected expert in psychiatry, are forced to reunite and confront the ghosts of their past. They must answer a seemingly impossible question: How do you protect society without sacrificing the foundational principles of a state governed by the rule of law?
Kasper Bajon, director and co-writer of the series, shared his thoughts on the show’s core themes:
“This story, although inspired by true events, is for me primarily a story about people who, representing the state and its institutions, face very difficult choices. It is about what happens when the law, the sense of justice, and the need for security cannot be reconciled.”
