Happy Friday, fellow Brits, and welcome to your roundup of what’s been added and what’s currently trending in the Netflix UK top 10s. Although only 20 new arrivals came this week (which pales compared to the 47 added last week), there are still some gems to watch!

With April 2024 just around the corner, keep an eye on our preview for all the upcoming titles coming up on Netflix UK throughout the month here. Titles coming up include the ITV series Cleaning Up, Emily the Criminal, The Bad Guy, and the Gillian Anderson movie SCOOP.

Now, let’s dig into some highlights for the past week:

What to Watch on Netflix UK This Week

Top Gun: Maverick

Director: Joseph Kosinski
Cast: Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Ed Harris

Having just recently been on Sky Cinema and Paramount+, the movie that arguably kickstarted theaters big return two years ago now arrives on Netflix UK for the first time.

Tom Cruise returns to his role as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell 30 years after graduating from Top Gun. He has to graduate from student to teacher with a new mission: to take a bunch of talented fighter pilots and push them to their limits.

If you have an F-off sound system at home, now is the time to turn it to the max with this Cruise tour-de-force.

Gunpowder (Season 1)

Cast: Kit Harington, Liv Tyler, Peter Mullan, Mark Gatiss, Edward Holcroft, Shaun Dooley

Netflix UK has largely missed out on all the HBO shows that have been dropping onto Netflix in international territories, but this week, they got one (albeit with a massive asterisk attached to it!). We’re referring to the Kit Harrington series Gunpowder, a co-production between the BBC and HBO.

Best known for his role in Game of Thrones, Harrington plays Robert Catesby in this period drama set in London in the 1600s. The movie revolves around his character plotting to blow up Parliament and kill the reigning King.

Red Eye (2005)

Director: Wes Craven
Cast: Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy, Brian Cox, Jayma Mays, Angela Paton, Laura Johnson

Fresh off Cillian Murphy’s triumphant success for Oppenheimer, Netflix UK re-added one of his earlier movies, the often overlooked Red Eye, from director Wes Craven following its removal last year. If you can quite believe it, the thriller will be turning 20 years old next year.

Murphy stars alongside McAdams, and the movie takes place on an overnight flight to Miami with a political assassination plot underway.
