The film stars Noé Hernández and Alfonso Herrera as two cops who, after pulling over a stolen car for a routine traffic stop, come face to face with the powerful cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Facing El Chapo (also known as La captura) is an upcoming Mexican Netflix Original crime-action film directed by Chava Cartas (Our Times) and written by Bernardo Esquinca (Pray for Blood), which is based on the chronicle by Héctor de Mauleón. Francisco Gonzàlez Compeán and Sebastián Jurado are the film’s producers for Draco Films.

What is the plot of Facing El Chapo?

Inspired by true events, the film follows two police officers, Carmona and Rosales, who pull over a stolen car during what appears to be a routine traffic stop. However, the situation rapidly escalates when they unexpectedly come face-to-face with Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, one of the world’s most dangerous criminals and notorious cartel leaders.

Alfonso Herrera will be best known to Netflix subscribers for starring in shows such as Ozark as Javi Elizonndro, in Sense8 as Hernando Fuente, and in both Rebel Moon films as Cassius. The actor has also starred in popular series such as Queen of the South and Prime Video’s The House of the Spirits.
