Big news for fans of the Syfy series Resident Alien. The show will begin rolling out onto Netflix ahead of season 3 airing on Syfy beginning in the US beginning on February 13th.

Created by Chris Sheridan, Resident Alien is a comedy series that’s headlined by Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and based on the comic book of the same name.

The show is about an alien who has crash-landed on Earth, and to blend in, he takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor called Harry Vanderspeigle, all while carrying out a secret mission on Earth.

When is Resident Alien coming to Netflix?

Let’s begin with the United States, which will be the first territory to pick up Resident Alien. We got word that the show will land on Netflix on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024. Multiple seasons are dropping, which essentially means both seasons 1 and 2 are landing, given the third has yet to air (more on this later).

The addition to Netflix is not expected to impact its current availability on Peacock, where both seasons are available in the premium tier.

We can also confirm that some international territories (mostly European regions) will begin streaming multiple seasons of the show beginning on March 1st, 2024. We’ve only been able to confirm Netflix Italy and Netflix Germany thus far, although it’s likely more will be added to the list in the run-up to release.

As always, release dates are subject to change, and we’ll keep you posted on more as and when we get it.

Season 3 of Resident Alien Begins Airing on Syfy This Month

The addition of the show to Netflix comes just a week before the third season is due to begin airing weekly on Syfy. Renewed for eight episodes, you’ll see Alan Tudyk’s return beginning February 15th, 2024.

Will the third season eventually hit Netflix? We’d suspect so, but not until some point in 2025. We’ll have more on this soon.

This is just the latest example of Netflix licensing content from rivals who only a few years ago, had turned off the licensing taps almost entirely to Netflix. This year, Netflix US is getting many USA Network hits, plus over a dozen titles from Disney’s vast catalog. We suspect this will continue as we continue into the year.

Of course, long-term subscribers of Netflix will remember that Netflix used to carry the entire Syfy slate following its initial airing. Most of those shows have now departed from the service, but you’ll still find a few available, such as The Magicians, Wynonna Earp, Van Helsing, and Happy!.
