The next major piece of the Paramount licensing puzzle is officially falling into place, and this time, it’s a global affair! Following the massive international rollout of the hit military drama SEAL Team earlier this summer, the next heavyweight title from Paramount+ is getting ready for its Netflix debut. We’ve learned that multiple seasons of the gritty crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown are set to land on Netflix in the US and most international regions on October 5th, 2026.
As you might recall, we previously reported on this surprise Paramount licensing deal at the top of the year, which recently saw SEAL Team land on Netflix in multiple countries back in August. Now, Mayor of Kingstown is following that exact same wide-release playbook, dropping in the US alongside a host of international territories such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Latin America, plus a myriad of other countries around the globe. It’s unclear how long Netflix has these titles, but based on previous shows from other distributors, it’s probably somewhere between 1 and 2-3 years.
While we are still waiting for exact confirmation on whether every single season of the show will drop on October 5th, we do know it will be “multiple seasons” and we’re strongly expecting all four seasons (40 episodes) to drop, giving Netflix subscribers worldwide a hefty, action-packed binge just in time for the fall season.
What is Mayor of Kingstown about?
If you haven’t checked this one out on Paramount+ yet, you are in for a heavy, high-stakes ride.
Co-created by Hugh Dillon and Taylor Sheridan—the mastermind behind the sprawling Yellowstone universe, Tulsa King, and Special Ops: Lioness—Mayor of Kingstown takes place in a fictionalized Michigan town where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.
The series follows the powerful McLusky family, led by Mike McLusky (played brilliantly by Marvel veteran Jeremy Renner). Mike operates as the unofficial “Mayor” of Kingstown, acting as a ruthless and conflicted power broker between the town’s street gangs, prisoners, guards, and local police. Attempting to bring order and justice to a town that has neither, the series tackles heavy themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality.
Jeremy Renner absolutely anchors the series with a powerhouse performance, and he’s backed by a phenomenal ensemble cast. The series features two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (Parenthood, Edward Scissorhands) as the McLusky matriarch Mariam, alongside co-creator Hugh Dillon (Flashpoint), Tobi Bamtefa (Tin Star), Taylor Handley (The O.C.), Emma Laird (A Haunting in Venice), and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones).
Taylor Sheridan remains one of Paramount’s most prolific and most important creators, and while he was in negotiations with Netflix about bringing his overall deal under the streamer, he ultimately chose Universal as his new home post-Paramount. While Yellowstone (which Netflix licenses in many regions around the world) has historically been fractured across different regional streaming services and his other hits have remained firmly locked behind the Paramount+ paywall, giving Netflix’s massive worldwide subscriber base a taste of Sheridan’s gritty universe is virtually guaranteed to be a huge success. We expect Mayor of Kingstown to rocket to the top of the Netflix Top 10 charts worldwide as soon as it drops.
