Welcome to your weekly look ahead at what’s coming to Netflix US over the next seven days! It’s a crossover week as we wave goodbye to July and welcome in August. As is tradition for the first of the month, August 1st brings an absolutely massive tidal wave of licensed movies to the platform, including some massive cinematic franchises. Add in some highly anticipated new originals and beloved cult-classic TV shows, and your watchlist is about to be very full.

A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Shhh. You’ll want to keep the volume down for this one. One of the biggest horror blockbusters of 2024 makes its Netflix US debut this week. Serving as a prequel to the hit John Krasinski franchise, Day One takes us back to the chaotic, terrifying first hours of the alien invasion in New York City. Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) star as two strangers forced to navigate the crumbling metropolis in absolute silence to survive the hypersensitive, deadly creatures. It’s a tense affair, and it never quite reaches the heights of the mothership movies; it’s a worthy companion.
Hannibal (Seasons 1-3)

Fannibals, rejoice! Bryan Fuller’s visually stunning, profoundly disturbing, and critically acclaimed psychological horror series is making a triumphant return to Netflix. Hugh Dancy stars as gifted (but deeply troubled) FBI criminal profiler Will Graham, who teams up with the elegant and brilliant psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter (a masterful Mads Mikkelsen). Unbeknownst to Will, his new mentor is a manipulative, cannibalistic serial killer. The twisted cat-and-mouse dynamic between these two is some of the best television of the 2010s. Best Medicine (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: Sunday
Looking for your next comforting medical dramedy? Based on the long-running beloved British series Doc Martin, this new series follows Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles), a brilliant Boston heart surgeon whose career derails when he develops a sudden phobia of blood. Relocating to a quaint, eccentric Maine fishing village as a general practitioner, his blunt, grumpy bedside manner immediately clashes with the quirky locals. Co-starring Abigail Spencer and Annie Potts, this is a heartwarming and hilarious new addition to the library.
