‘The Family Chantel’ recap: Chantel makes amends with Pedro’s mom Lidia, Pedro feels disrespected and betrayed

Reality

The Family Chantel featured Chantel Everett smoothing things over with Pedro Jimeno’s mother Lidia Jimeno in the Dominican Republic, which only infuriated Pedro more and opened old wounds during the Season 4 episode that aired Monday night on TLC.

The Family Chantel broadcast began with Chantel saying she had tried to appease Pedro and support his new job in real estate. She had tried to get to know his co-workers better, which didn’t go well, but Chantel complained about how Pedro didn’t give her credit for anything.

“He feels like he’s made so much progress with my family and I haven’t put forth the same effort, so I’m making it my priority to go to the Dominican Republic with the intention of talking to his family to figure something out,” Chantel explained in a confessional.

“I am willing to do anything at this point.”

Chantel had told her family that she’d be traveling to Arizona to receive counseling with Pedro, and she had told Pedro that she’d be going to Michigan for a nursing convention with her sister Winter Everett.

No one knew where Chantel really was, but she planned on telling Pedro the truth once she returned home. Chantel hoped Pedro would that attempting to make things right with Pedro’s mother Lidia was “the right thing to do.”

Chantel intended to be nice and maintain her composure with Lidia. Chantel believed she and Pedro were soul mates and that if he just wanted a Green Card, he’d be long gone.

“Pedro loves me and he doesn’t want a divorce. Deep down, I know that he just wants the good relationship that we had in the beginning,” Chantel told the cameras.

Chantel didn’t give Lidia any notice of her trip to the Dominican Republic, but she noted how desperate times call for desperate measures. Chantel admitted she was just “grasping at straws” at this point.

When Lidia opened the door for Chantel, she appeared very surprised.

Meanwhile, Pedro attended a cookout with his co-workers, who were all in happy relationships, and he apologized for Chantel’s behavior at the bar that day when she flipped out.

Pedro said he appreciated how Chantel loved him for many year but he needed this job for himself, to feel like a man and really enjoy his life.

When a friend asked Pedro if he still loved Chantel, he replied, “The way [she’s] been treating me right now, the way she treated me before, and the way I’m treating her right now is a little bit complicated for me to answer that question. We [were] talking about a separation a little bit.”

Pedro said regardless of how he felt, he needed to take care of Chantel and protect her.

Pedro was very sad and called the situation “too much,” and he acknowledged to the cameras how his marriage was “falling apart” and he’s “terrible with communication.”

Back at Lidia’s house, Chantel told Lidia that she had lied to Pedro about his whereabouts because he probably wouldn’t have let her visit had he known.

Chantel explained to Lidia how her intentions were pure and she wanted to fix their relationship. Chantel said through tears that she didn’t want to argue and believed Pedro had changed ever since he returned to Atlanta, GA, from the Dominican Republic, when he had searched for his father.

Chantel thought Pedro had been affected by his father, which naturally affected the couple’s relationship, but Lidia said that had nothing to do with Pedro’s behavior.

Lidia thought Chantel was looking for “excuses” and not analyzing herself.

Chantel said Pedro didn’t want to talk to her and he was very busy working, and Lidia acknowledged how Pedro needed to make time for his family. Lidia said if Chantel had a baby and gave Pedro a son, things would probably change for the better and it would strengthen her marriage.

Pedro, however, had told Chantel that he didn’t want to have children for five to seven years.

Chantel didn’t think having a baby would help anything, and she feared raising a child by herself “with a man who didn’t want to be a father.”

Chantel gifted Lidia designer Gucci sunglasses to respect her culture, and Lidia seemed genuinely thankful. Lidia said despite all of their differences and the fact their families didn’t get along, she actually wanted Pedro and Chantel to stay together.

Chantel said hearing that “meant the world” to her, even though Lidia had previously told Pedro that Chantel was the problem and she was “selfish” and they should get separated.

But Lidia decided to support Chantel after seeing how she wanted to improve their relationship. Lidia could tell that Chantel wanted to fix her marriage, and so Lidia wished them resolve.

Chantel told the cameras that the best case scenario happened and she was pleasantly surprised. Chantel was really happy knowing Lidia actually supported her marriage, and Chantel looked forward to having a good relationship with her mother-in-law.

“I am willing to put in the work for our marriage,” Chantel noted.

Lidia never viewed Chantel as family, but she said she respected Chantel as her son’s wife.

Meanwhile, Chantel’s family thought Chantel and Pedro’s problems had to do with a clean house. They had no idea how dire the situation really was.

Lidia then FaceTimed with Pedro to hopefully learn his version of the story. Lidia shared how Chantel was there, and Pedro’s face dropped. Pedro was immediately upset about the fact Chantel had flown to the Dominican Republic to talk to his family behind his back.

“If she tried to save our marriage, you don’t need to bring some glasses or bring things to my mom. Just bring your heart, and that’s it — not try to put my mom against me,” Pedro complained in a confessional.

Pedro explained to his mother how Chantel had made a scene in front of his co-workers and “talked sh-t” to him, which was news to Lidia. Pedro told Lidia that Chantel wasn’t being honest with her, but Lidia was well aware Pedro had been putting his work before family.

Lidia said Chantel was right in accusing Pedro of not being attentive but Chantel was wrong by lashing out at her husband in front of his co-workers.

Pedro planned to fly home so Chantel couldn’t take control, and Lidia agreed it would be good for the three of them to meet and talk. Pedro said Chantel’s master plan — and “the last card she [had] to play” — of involving his family was just going to make things worse.

Later on, Lidia informed Nicole that Chantel had paid her a visit. While Lidia and Nicole’s relationship wasn’t good at the time, Nicole pointed out how gossip unites.

“Why doesn’t he divorce that woman?!” Nicole shouted.

Lidia said Pedro believed that Chantel wanted him to stay a “mediocre” man and not grow as a person. Lidia also thought Chantel had no goals while Pedro was working incredibly hard.

“I always told you that their marriage would go to sh-t,” Nicole said, adding how she was going to support Pedro so that he’d finally divorce Chantel. “If he wants to divorce tomorrow, [we’ll] find him a lawyer.”

Nicole said there were many beautiful women in the Dominican Republic for Pedro to choose from — women who are “prettier than Chantel with a better body than Chantel.”

Pedro was then shown landing in the Dominican Republic. He complained about how Chantel always played the victim, and he was angry about Chantel sharing their business with his family, whom he used to “talk sh-t” about.

“Now she wants to be best friends with my mom, when she never talked to my mom,” Pedro said.

Pedro said he was “disappointed” that Chantel was trying to persuade his mother to change his mind about their relationship, and he also viewed it as a betrayal on Chantel’s part because his mother had given him no compassion in regards to the situation with his father.

Pedro was therefore also angry that Lidia was giving Chantel compassion instead.

Pedro said Chantel had “no respect” for him and was “acting like a little girl.” He claimed she wanted to be chased all the time, and then he showed up to the hotel where he and Chantel usually stayed together.

“I regret right now giving up my family for Chantel. My family is the most precious thing I have… And in the end, I [gave] up my family for you, and you took that for granted too,” Pedro complained of his wife.

Pedro said he was more angry than he used to be, especially because Chantel had lied to him about where she was going. Pedro said Chantel acted without thinking things through and he couldn’t take it any longer.

As for Alejandro and Nicole Jimeno’s relationship, Alejandro said that Nicole was going through a depression after her miscarriage and times were tough. Alejandro wanted to support Nicole but didn’t know how, and Nicole never even told her mother about the pregnancy loss.

Alejandro said he was trying to be tough for Nicole and not show his own pain and sadness over the loss of their baby. Alejandro said he was excited about being a father, and he planned to continue fighting for the woman he loved.

Alejandro therefore decided to fly back to the Dominican Republic, even though Nicole had asked him not to come.

The episode concluded with Pedro confronting Chantel at the hotel pool, and he asked, “What, what are you doing here?”
