Ransom Canyon Season 2 sees a new love triangle emerge between Lauren and the Russell brothers, Kit and Lucas Russell.
It’s one of the storylines that fans were most excited to explore in the second season, as per comments on the series’ trailer, as many felt they picked up on chemistry between Kit and Lauren during the tornado scene in season 1.

The development of Kit and Lauren’s feelings for each other is gradual, however. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it definitely takes both of them by surprise.
Luke and Lauren’s relationship is on the rocks following the shoulder injury that sidelined her from cheerleading. The injury, paired with her mother’s arrest in the murder of Randall Kirkland (along with her mother’s affair with Kit), sends Lauren down a darker path, a departure from her golden girl days.
At the same time, the complete opposite happens for Lucas—he’s climbing the social ladder as the Homecoming King. The world is opening up in front of him with college scholarships, but he’s continuously forced to make his world smaller for Lauren and hide his own happiness to not make her feel bad.
Their relationship gets lost in the shuffle. He wants to be the person she needs him to be, but it’s clear that they are no longer a good match. Their lives are heading in different directions, which is a reality neither of them wants to accept.
Throughout all of this, Lauren finds common ground with Kit, who is always around when she needs to talk and provides a source of support, even encouraging her festival artwork. They connect in unexpected ways, eventually realizing that they have feelings for each other, but pulling away because of their shared love for Lucas.
That is, until they finally give in to temptation and share a kiss one evening on the couch, one that Lucas witnesses through the window of their trailer home.
Though they pull away immediately and promise each other that this never happened, the damage has been done, as Lucas knows. In a moment of anger and revenge, he sleeps with Lauren’s best friend, Ashley.
Meanwhile, Kit and Lauren try to fight their feelings for each other, though Kit expresses that what he’s feeling has to be real since he loves his brother so much, and yet he’d still be willing to ruin everything to be with her.
Lauren remains conflicted, but eventually tells Kit that she wants to be with him, too. When her father, the Sheriff, gets wind of their connection, he makes it clear to Kit that he needs to take another job in Wyoming and leave town for everyone’s sake, telling him he’s done enough harm and damage to the people he loves.
Kit informs Lauren that it’s because he loves her that he has to let her go, but when Lauren eventually finds out that it was her father who made him leave town, she runs to stop him.
Instead, she finds Lucas at the trailer home, where they have a heart-to-heart about the bad decisions they both made. They promise each other that they’ll eventually be okay, but he realizes that Lauren is in love with Kit, so he tells her that he’s at the bus station, waiting to ship out.
Lauren runs to Kit, telling him that she’s not letting him go, as they share a passionate kiss. The heart wants what it wants, and in this case, Lauren realized her heart belonged to Kit Russell after all.
