Ghosts Recap – Weekend From Hell (217)

Ghosts Season 2 Episode 14 put Trevor at the forefront of the storyline—with a guest appearance from Tara Reid herself.

It all started when Jay took the B&B guests fishing as part of a new “bait-to-plate” experience, which honestly, sounds like a really solid concept. But when your B&B is located on a plot of land where there have been many, many deaths, things can go from great to not-so-great fairly quickly, as was the case when one of the guests fished out a human skull.

Since we know that Trevor’s body was dumped into a nearby lake upon his death by his frat bros, it wasn’t shocking when the coroner confirmed that it belonged to the pants-less ghost, but what Trevor never expected in all his years in the in-between was a visit from his parents.

Upon hearing the heartbreaking news that he’s a ghost of divorce, Trevor launched a plan to get his parent’s back together. It didn’t take much convincing to get Sam to agree to Parent Trap the parents from beyond the grave—we all know she’s a sucker for love, and as a child of divorce herself, she didn’t want Trevor to go through what she did. I have to admit, The Parent Trap was one of my favorite movies, so I was also on board to see how it would pan out. And while Jay had some very fair hesitations—they are divorced for a reason—when Sam questioned if Jay would deny Trevor the opportunity to help his parents, he had no choice but to support the cause.

Sam went above and beyond to deliver a romantic ambiance for Lenny and Esther, using Trevor’s suggestions to help them rekindle the spark, including their anniversary dinner and their favorite song. Things were definitely on the right track until Lenny messed things up by taking a work call in the middle of movie night, a pet peeve of Esther’s. Naturally, this was a huge red flag and proved Jay’s point that the divorce happened for a reason, but neither Trevor nor Sam were willing to accept defeat, which is when she came up with the “Trevor is going to sext his dad plan.” This might be the only time I’ve ever seen anyone so eager to see their parents smash. But it made sense considering Trevor blamed himself for the demise of their marriage as it happened right after his death. In his mind, he needed to remedy the situation, and he was running out of time.

“Trevor’s Body” – Trevor receives disturbing news about his parents when they come to Woodstone B&B to collect his newly discovered remains. Also, Isaac and Nigel’s relationship hits a roadblock, on the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Feb. 9 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Laraine Newman guest stars as Esther, Trevor’s mom, and Chip Zein guest stars as Lenny, Trevor’s dad. Tara Reid guest stars as herself, Trevor’s celebrity crush when he was alive. At the memorial the next day, the other ghosts, including cholera ghost Nancy, all confirmed that Lenny and Esther definitely gave in to the moment. Yep, they all watched Trevor’s parents have sex, which is slightly disturbing until you remember that they have nothing else going for them. Hetty was the funniest, explaining that Esther gave a master class on intimacy with your ex-husband. Good for Esther!

Trevor couldn’t dwell on the situation as Tara Reid—in the flesh—showed up at his memorial, a gift from his brother, Jeremy, who never moved out of his parent’s house yet still couldn’t make it for some reason. Reid was a blast from the past for viewers and Trevor alike, a reminder of the good 2000s, but unfortunately, her appearance at the memorial revealed that Lenny was not worthy of Esther’s love as he still had a wandering eye. Whoops.

The revelation crushed Trevor as he felt as though he failed his parents, who then admitted that his death was not the reason for the divorce. It was a long time coming, Esther said, recalling that Lenny was a serial cheater long before and explaining that they only stayed together for their children.

Then, in a pivotal moment for both Trevor and Sam, Esther underscored that divorce is never about the children, it’s always about the parents. The statement absolved Trevor and Sam of the guilt they’ve been carrying.

While Trevor couldn’t hug his mother in this sweet moment of comfort and closure, Alberta stepped in so he could feel the love.

Cheating was a hot topic during the episode as Nigel’s ex, Jenkins, stirred the pot and revealed that the exes “liasoned” on Christmas Eve. Thor and Pete weren’t exactly sure if they should tell Isaac what they heard, and while discussing it with the group of ghosts, Flower spilled the beans to Isaac directly without even realizing it. She truly is the gift that keeps on giving.

Isaac was so heartbroken, he ended things with Nigel, who was left shouting that they were on a respite during the holiday—the old-school version of Ross and Rachel’s “we were on a break.” Honestly, someone should show Isaac that episode.

The ghosts suggested that the only way to get over someone is to get under someone else, but in Isaac’s case, the options were pretty limited, though Thor did divulge that there was a gay ghost living over at the Farnsby’s. Isaac decided to give that a shot, but it was pretty clear that George the Puritan was far less pure than the name would suggest, and Nigel’s Pervy Puritan nickname was far more fitting.

Isaac then admitted that he may have overreacted about Nigel’s hookup with his ex, which led to the next step in their relationship—moving in together… or at least, nearby. Isaac is all about those baby steps, but in reality, inviting Nigel to live in the manor is a huge step for him, even if he isn’t ready to share a room together right this second.

It’s best to keep Jenkins away so he can no longer meddle in the relationship.

And finally, Trevor couldn’t let Tara Reid leave without at least trying to kill her. As she was about to descend the stairs, he mustered up all his power to throw a vase in her way. If it wasn’t for Sam, Tara would’ve died on the property, with a slight probability that she would become a manor ghost. We’ll never know, however, because Sam did the right thing and saved in the nick of time. Personally, I’m glad because I can’t say I’ve ever understood the Reid appeal.

But now I’m wondering who the next ghost will eventually be. After all, there are so many manor guests day in and day out, someone is bound to die and join the elite 8.
