Well, well, well, Paris Is Always a Good Idea tried to pull a fast one over on us, but like any good TV watcher, you probably caught on to the fact that things weren’t as they seemed—for a variety of reasons.
While going to revisit one of her gap-year love interests, Chelsea Martin just wasn’t that interested, even when it was revealed that she’d made a huge impact on billionaire Marcos, who, after taking over his father’s company following his death, reduced the carbon footprint and ended up with a breezy 40+ billion in his pocket.
Though he was definitely interested in a romance with Chelsea, he had another proposition for her—help me figure out what to do with the money.
Ah, billionaires and all their money that they simply just don’t know how to handle.
Chelsea was right in pointing out that no one person needs that kind of money when the rest of the world could benefit from it greatly, and Marcos embraced it, realizing that he needed to start a foundation that Chelsea would run without “all the red tape.”
She really made an impression on him as the only woman to never have fawned over him and his money.
Old Chelsea would’ve immediately jumped at the opportunity, but new Chelsea was hesitant because she had something holding her back—a Red Sox-loving man back at home in Boston.
Despite being in the castle again, where she’d always felt like home, Chelsea’s heart ached for “work dude” after their romantic moments in Paris.
The sparks were flying between Chelsea and Knightly in the previous episode, and honestly, I was a little shocked that he decided to let her go—temporarily—to get closure.
I get his thought process, and I applaud it, but he definitely seemed to regret it after finding out Marcos was practically royalty. As his sister suggested, next time, do some research first.
She also gave him some sound advice that was likely a tease to all of us wondering whether Chelsea would fall back into Marcos’ arms—have a little faith in her.
Despite Marcos’ hard-to-resist proposition, Chelsea exhibited plenty of growth during this episode, opting to follow her heart for the first time ever instead of prioritizing her career. She left Spain, headed back to NYC and was going to confess her love for Knightly.
But nothing is ever that easy, obviously. Before she could get to him, her boss intercepted her and delivered the terrible news that the company wasn’t doing well and changes needed to be made.
Despite securing the biggest donation in ACC history in France (thanks to Chelsea and Knightly), which was now keeping the company afloat, they had to cut costs.
And that’s when Chelsea realized Knightly was on the chopping block.
This just goes to show you that you can be the person securing millions of dollars for your company and you’re still not safe—but truly, that’s a discussion for a different time. Hallmark is our escape from reality for crying out loud.
Anyway, Chelsea realized that in this scenario, this unfortunate scenario, Marcos handed her a lifeline that she had no choice but to accept now.
After being pushed into a corner, she was the one with a plan B.
It was either Chelsea or Knightly, and since she knew he needed this job because of the expenses of taking care of his sister, she resigned knowing that she’d land on her feet, though her heart might never recover.
While it was an incredibly selfless act, it also unfairly left Knightly in the dark. He didn’t understand her decision, as to him, it appeared as though Chelsea simply resigned for a dream position in Spain. She never told him the truth because she knew him too well—he didn’t appreciate handouts, and he’d never allow it, but at some point, you have to trust that the person you’re with and love can make the decision that’s right for them.
Knightly tried to understand the reasoning behind her decision, even confessing his love for her, but Chelsea did not put her wall down.
Chelsea meant well, as her gesture was an act of kindness, even though it didn’t feel like it to either of them at the moment, but communication is key in a successful relationship. She owed him the truth, especially since women moving away from the city while he had to stay there was the reason his love life was always falling apart.

And you’d think she’d know that, considering her journey to see Marcos started with her ghosting him after her mom’s death and wanting to clear the air about why she’d left.
Unfortunately, a year passed, which brings us to the present-day wedding scenes as Chelsea is back in Marcos’ castle in Spain.
The series structured the storytelling in a way to keep us guessing up until the last minute, but it became evident early on that her heart was never going to belong with Marcos, and eventually, we learned that the impending wedding is actually her father Glenn’s and Sherry’s.
After quitting her job with the ACC, Chelsea stuck around to witness her dad’s proposal before helping to plan the wedding at the dreamy vineyard location.
And the fact that she’s recording this love story breakdown for Knightly makes all the more sense now, as it’s clearly a play to win him back.
How weird would it be if she was professing her love to one man while marrying another?
It turns out, Chelsea’s reunion with her gap-year loves was beneficial for her dad’s upcoming nuptials, as the venue and the photography services were both provided by the exes that she’s remained friends with.
But putting herself back out there led her to find her great love along the way, even if she had to let it go for a bit. It also makes sense that she said that had she not called Marco, she sees the future they would have had, but since she did, it brought her on a journey to Spain while he remained in Boston, as the financial stability and anchor for his sister.
Obviously, we all know that this ends with Knightly and Chelsea reuniting. I think Chelsea hopes her message to Knightly will convince him to give her another chance, but either her dad or her sister will call him to come to the wedding, where they’ll finally get their fairytale moment (it’s hard to compete with the Eiffel Tower, but an organic vineyard seems like a good start).
He is her great love—the man who softened her heart and helped her make a decision that wasn’t in her best interest but prioritized him and his family.
I wasn’t particularly impressed with the pilot episode of this limited series, but I will admit that the storyline grew on me—despite the many flaws with Chelsea’s character that I initially wrote about in my premiere review.
Chelsea has grown on me, finally embracing a life outside of work and pushing past her own pain to see that holding onto the hurt and hiding behind a job was never the definition of living a full and happy life.
