High Potential’s penultimate episode (can you believe the season finale is already next week) absolutely delivered on the fireworks.
The tension between Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) and Captain Nick Wagner (Steve Howey) hit an all-time high when a case involving a highly skilled robbery crew tied directly to his past and his late fiancée’s death.
It was a brutal case for Wagner, who spiraled after the crew outmaneuvered them yet again. Haunted by his past and blaming himself, he found comfort at the bottom of a bottle.
But Morgan understood that pain all too well. Having lost someone herself, she knew she had to look out for him, staying by his side and making sure he got home safely.
Naturally, there was a near-kiss moment, but the timing wasn’t right. Wagner wasn’t in the right headspace for it, and she knew it. Anything happening in the heat of the moment would’ve felt off and ruined any future chances, though it proved that both of them were feeling something.
Still, the show didn’t leave Morgan and Nick shippers hanging.
Morgan played a crucial role in helping Wagner confront his grief, and when he finally tracked down the suspect, she was the one who pulled him back from making a potentially devastating mistake.
At the same time, Morgan had a close call of her own, one that eerily mirrored Wagner’s past. When a suspect pointed a gun at her, Wagner stepped in and fired first, saving her life.
It was a full-circle moment. While he couldn’t save his girlfriend, he could save Morgan, getting her home safely to her kids to celebrate Mother’s Day/
They had each other’s backs throughout High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 titled “Second Sunday,” as the situation could’ve turned out very differently if they weren’t moving as a team and looking out for one another.
The Kiss Heard Round the World
And then, it happened–the series finally went there with Morgan and Nick.
After they wrapped up the wild case, Morgan and Nick’s moment happened on the elevator, and the way the scene was cut, along with the dreamy lighting (and her reaction after the passionate and steamy kiss) made me wonder if it was a dream. Did that really happen?
I’m choosing to believe that it did because I love what it means for the storyline moving forward.
Wagner pulled her in, clearly ready to move forward and embrace what he’s been feeling, and kissed her in a passionate, long-awaited moment.
I couldn’t look away from the screen—and neither could fans, who made that very clear in a Reddit discussion.
As one wrote, Steve Howey, I was not familiar with your game… at least, not fully, though, I definitely always had a crush on Van Montgomery on Reba.
Fans Are Speechless and Losing It
Either way, the steamy kiss between Morgan and Nick left many speechless, breathless and losing it, especially over the anticipated reaction from Karadec when he inevitably finds out (considering many believe he’s in denial about his feelings for Morgan).
Wagner’s heartbreaking backstory made many fans see him in a new light, expressing that he’s growing on them.
Many even championed his fling with Morgan, emphasizing that they don’t see him as a long term choice, however. “Wagner you dog!!!!! I’m not going to lie, I can see them together briefly,” one wrote.
“Morgan’s reaction post-elevator kiss was honestly kind of hilarious. I hope he’s healed though because I don’t want that to become a thing. I don’t know if it was seeing his chunky dog, but I enjoyed Wagner this episode,” another expressed.
