Sarah Drew Delights With Exciting ‘Mistletoe Murders’ Update Ahead of Season 3

- Advertisment -

Mistloe Murders just aired its second season, with the cliffhanger leaving plenty of fans on their toes.

The name Chimera gets thrown around a lot throughout the holiday-themed Hallmark murder mystery series, so it’s no surprise that fans have been wondering who or what it is.

As pieces of the puzzle concerning the elusive figure slowly fall into place and come to light, they illuminate information on Chimera, along with Emily Lane’s (Sarah Drew) dark and dangerous past—along with the real reason she came to Flethcher’s Grove.

Emily’s past plays a huge role in the series, as she’s a good-natured character who also harbors plenty of secrets, which pose quite a lot of issues for her budding romance with Peter (Sam Wellner). She’s not exactly proud of her past, and sharing it with a cop isn’t what she had in mind when she moved to the small town to lay low.

But she possesses a certain set of skills that come in handy when murders begin happening around town. She offers a helping hand, which brings her closer to Sam, but also puts her right in harm’s way.

Who Is Chimera on Mistletoe Murders?

In Mistletoe Murders, Chimera is introduced as a shadowy antagonist whose identity is hidden in early episodes. The name “Chimera” itself comes from Greek mythology, evoking something mythical and multifaced, which is all too fitting for a character who seems to be everywhere and nowhere all at once.

Chimera, however, isn’t a person, as fans soon learn that it’s the username Emily—then Grace—chooses when she joins the coding computer club at her private high school.

And later, the name is seemingly taken over by a terrorist organization run by Aaron and Emily.

Who is Aaron? Glad you asked! Aaron is a boy she met at a private school. They both bonded over the fact that they were outcasts, connecting almost immediately. Flashbacks show the two of them falling in love, and while it’s a cute love story, there’s also something off about Aaron. When their computer teacher is arrested for stealing money, it’s almost certain, though not confirmed, that Aaron was behind it.

Later in life, Emily’s vision for their organization was to use their hacking skills for good, helping those in need and forcing corrupt corporations to pay the ultimate price, sort of like digital Robin Hoods.

Unfortunately, Aaron had different plans, and Emily soon confirmed her fears that he was skimming from the funds and putting them in offshore accounts for when they’d would eventually be caught.

Despite her criminal past, Emily knew that she had to do the right thing, so she set up Aaron, who managed to escape when the CIA infiltrated their “lair.”

The Threat of Chimera in the Present Day

Emily later informs Peter that she was part of Intelligence, with their plan to take down the terrorist organization botched, forcing her to start over under a new name. In flashbacks that Emily keeps having, we see an explosion, alluding to the fact that her team walked into a trap that nearly killed her.

Since the terrorist group believed she was dead, the CIA faked her death, and she changed her identity and moved to a new town to operate a Christmas store. She was told to lie low, which is, unfortunately, something she’s not able to do given her adrenaline addiction.

She also couldn’t let go of Chimera, trying to keep tabs on the organization, and accidentally leaving a trail that let Aaron know she was still alive.

With a vengeance against her for betraying him, it was only a matter of time before he showed back up in her life.

The season 2 finale finds Emily opening the door, thinking she’s welcoming Peter, whom she finally confided in about her old life, only to come face to face with Aaron. Aaron’s arrival seemingly confirms that he is Chimera/behind the Chimera terrorist group.

The question is—what is Aaron capable of? How dangerous is he? What does he want from Emily? And will Sam get to her in time?

Let’s hope Mistletoe Murders gets a third season renewal soon!
