Ransom Canyon returned for its second season with a little bun in the oven for one of its lead characters.

Fans are immediately clued in that while Yancy Gray’s “wife,” Sidney, is back in town, there’s another secret that he’s been keeping from everyone—he’s still in a relationship with Ellie Estevez, and they are expecting their first child together.
Sid figures it out almost immediately and changes her tune. She’s hurt that Yancy is in love with Ellie, but she refuses to give him a divorce until he pays her off, which prompts Yancy to come up with a whole con about finding oil on his land to pull a job on Sam Kirkland.
If it works, he gets the money to pay off Sid, gets the divorce papers signed, and lives happily ever after with Ellie.
Unfortunately, things don’t always go according to plan, and this one hits several bumps in the road.
Sidney goes off-script, announcing Ellie’s pregnancy to the whole town in a “heated” discussion with Yancy.
Sam ends up biting, and they think they have him right where they want him, before it’s revealed that Sam has known all along and was in cahoots with police officer Kai to put Yancy behind bars.
They convince Sidney that she needs to have Yancy wire the $4 million, her half, to Sam’s bank account so that they can catch Yancy committing a crime. If she pulls through, they turn a blind eye to the homicide investigation in NOLA, where she’s a suspect.
While Yancy has a change of heart, feeling guilty about the con, Sid orders him to wire her the money so that he can get his divorce and be with his baby mama, and she can be on her way.
Yancy caves, sending over the $4 million, but as it turns out, this was a con within a con within a con—and Yancy grifted the grifter.
While Sid thought she had the upper hand, Yancy was actually working with Sam and Kai, at Staten Kirkland’s request, so that she would give him his divorce and leave town.
It was a risky but brilliant plan that seemingly went off without a hitch—until Sid had a change of heart and returned to town to warn Yancy about the trap laid by Sam and Kai.
Instead, she saw them all at the town’s country music festival, celebrating their victory, realizing that she was the one who was duped in all of this.
Feeling like a fool, she immediately goes to get revenge, breaking into Yancy and Ellie’s place and scaring her after she’d come home from working a full day at the festival.
Ellie immediately put her guard up when she realized that Sid knew the truth, and while Sid never put hands on Ellie, she threatened her to a point that caused her to back away and fall off a stoop, ending the night in the ER with a placental abruption that led to early labor.
While the police were looking for Sid—who was in the wind—Ellie’s fate hung in the balance, along with her unborn daughter’s, as everyone who played a role in the con blamed themselves, particularly Yancy.
Thankfully, Ellie pulled through and was out of the woods, giving birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl named Isabella.
But Ellie’s mama bear instincts also kicked in immediately, and the trauma of what happened was apparent, as she feared that Sid would come back and hurt her and her daughter.
Despite her love for Yancy, Ellie checked herself and Isabella out of the hospital before telling Yancy that, to keep their daughter safe, she had to keep her away from him and the darkness that follows him.
It was an extremely unfortunate turn of events, one that caught Yancy by surprise as his relationship with Ellie was so solid throughout the whole pregnancy; however, Ellie experienced a huge change after holding her daughter for the first time and realizing the only thing that mattered now was keeping her safe and protected, no matter the cost.
