Supergirl Review – Hope for Tomorrow (6×15)

Reviews

Courage isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be sometimes.

An abundance of courage at the hands of a totem almost destroyed National City on Supergirl Season 6 Episode 13.

To be quite honest, I’m not really digging this whole Supergirl versus Fifth Dimensional Imp storyline.

Kara continues to underscore that Nyxly is unlike any other villain she’s faced before, but she’s the least exciting when compared to others such as Lex Luthor. Fingers-crossed they bring him back for the series finale!

Maybe Kara is referring to the fact that Nyxly is redeemable as all of her anger is fueled by pain and a desire for revenge?

It has also made her power-hungry, hence the desire to pursue the totems.

While the Super squad simply wanted to gain control of the totems, Supergirl ended up cracking the one Nyxly got into her possession and forcing herself into a gauntlet.

The whole search for the totems and the gauntlet is giving me Harry Potter vibes. It’s like when Harry Potter searched for the Horcruxes in order to destroy Voldemort.

When both Nyxly and Supergirl failed their gauntlet, residents of National City saw a surge in courage influencing their every move.

We’ll never see J’onn that chipper ever again.

Nyxly passed her gauntlet after becoming vulnerable and admitting to her brother that his betrayal hurt and destroyed her.

Supergirl, however, kept failing her gauntlet, which took her back to the night she became Supergirl and saved Alex’s plane.

Maybe if she’s less confident and courageous, she’ll be able to pass the test?

It doesn’t really make sense, though, I’m not invested enough to care.

I wonder if the storyline of Dr. Lahr harnessing lightning will come into play. Maybe that’s the reason why Nyxly and Kara are linked psychically?

Otherwise, it was such a random plot tool.

The biggest development may have been Lena’s confrontation with Vita, a Kryptonian witch.

I can’t really seem to understand why Lena is so opposed to accepting that magic exists when she’s surrounded by supernatural entities all day long.

Sure, she’s a woman of science, but so much happens that can’t be explained scientifically.

If you’re best friend is an alien, the idea that witches exist isn’t entirely far-fetched.

Lena was adamant about distancing herself from her family legacy, and that’s fair. She went through enough turmoil as a Luthor, so if she doesn’t want to embrace her magical powers, so be it.

Unfortunately, after her talk with Vita, it doesn’t seem like she gets much of a say in it.

If she wants to be the hero that saves National City, she has to tap into her magical side.

I’d much rather the initiative come from Lena out of her own free will instead.

At least it didn’t take her several years to confide in Kara and bring her up to speed.

On the plus side, I am interested to see how Lena blends magic and science to co-exist. They seem to negate each other, but if there’s anyone that can accomplish it, it’s Lena.

And the writers didn’t forget about William just yet. Andrea Rojas basically berated him into pursuing an exclusive about the Super Friends as though it’s that easy to get in with a group of superheroes who are busy saving the day.

I hate unrealistic editors.

Of course, William wasn’t just slacking on the assignment without a good reason — the poor guy was traumatized from his last incident with the Luthor’s.

However, a dose of courage convinced him to pursue a lead, and even though it wore off eventually, William kept up with the momentum and hatched a plan to embed himself with Supergirl and her friends.

“Kara knows Supergirl,” was his exact sentence to Nia, who likely wishes she could talk him out of this one.

Bringing William along is quite a dangerous task. How will Kara handle it?

And will she have time to? She’s already juggling being mind-connected to Nyxly, trying to pass the gauntlet, find all the totems, save National City, and rescue Mxy.

I mean, how much more could anyone ask of a superhero.

Something tells me William’s involvement will make him privy to Supergirl’s identity and thus leave the series with a love story for Kara.

At the very least, things between Alex and Kelly, who has now taken over The Guardian, are shaping up both professionally and personally.

The couple that fights for justice together, stays together.
