As NBC announced its 2026-2027 fall TV slate, one series noticeably missing from the lineup was The Hunting Party.
The series, starring Melissa Roxburgh, wrapped up its second season run a few days ago, with questions about a third season bubbling up to the surface.
Will There Be a Season 3 of The Hunting Party?
The status currently remains unknown.
The Hunting Party is the only NBC drama whose future is still in limbo, meaning the network has not renewed or cancelled it just yet.
Of the on-the-bubble series, Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, told Deadline, “We’re still discussing it.”
“We’re looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better,” Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy, said, adding, “Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there.”
The Hunting Party, which aired in the Thursday 10 p.m. time period behind Law & Order: SVU, only retained about half of the lead-in audience.
The reason why the series remains in limbo currently is that it’s done well on Peacock and Netflix, which could be an argument for moving the series to a streaming service, which would be the second time Roxburgh’s been saved by the streamers (following Manifest’s cancellation at NBC).
Deadline reports, “The options on the cast are believed to expire at the end of June.”
When Could The Hunting Party Season 3 premiere?
Currently, it has not been renewed, but the series is not on the NBC fall schedule, so if there is a renewal, it would likely come back in 2027, like the previous two seasons.
Did The Hunting Party Season 2 End on a Cliffhanger?
The procedural series, which focuses on a small team of investigators led by former FBI profiler Rebecca “Bex” Henderson (Roxburgh) tracking down some of the most dangerous and disturbed serial killers in the world, definitely has plenty more story left to tell, as the finale revealed The Pit, where many of them escaped from, was also a breeding ground for them, meaning there’s a lot more out there to catch.
