If you’ve been following The Pitt, you already know Season 2 isn’t going easy on anyone.
Robby has that sabbatical looming, but I can’t tell if he’s actually planning to recharge or if he’s got some other plan tucked up his sleeve.
Langdon’s future is hanging by a thread in The Pitt Season 2, and Mel is still buried under the weight of that deposition.
Samira and Javadi are both staring down career decisions that could shift everything in ways they didn’t expect.
Santos is barely keeping her head above water as an R2, and Al-Hashimi has a health mystery that no one seems to have cracked yet.
With just a few hours left in the Fourth of July shift, I’m on edge as I watch Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center scramble to stay ahead of whatever surprises the day throws at them.
I don’t know about you, but I’m counting down to see who actually makes it through in one piece.
11. Is Dr. Al-Hashimi Struggling with PTSD from Past Trauma?
What’s going on with Al-Hashimi?
She showed up an hour early for her first PTMC shift, armed with a bagel, a stack of initiatives, and a plan to run the ER like a boss.
Her confidence was obvious, but it didn’t take long for it to be tested.
Late in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 1, an infant was found alone in a restroom. As Samira and Al-Hashimi watched over the child in Pediatrics, something unusual happened.
After seeing the test results, Al-Hashimi froze over Baby Jane Doe. It was brief, but you could tell it mattered.
When asked about it, Sepideh Moafi basically said it’s tied to a massive spoiler and promised there’s a story there that’ll unfold over the season.
It means: don’t expect her to spill the beans, but I’m sure things are about to get interesting.
Later, in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7, Al-Hashimi headed straight to the bathroom and called the Pittsburgh Neuro Science Group… as a patient, not a doctor.
She also mentioned her time working in a maternity ward in Dasht-e-Barchi in 2020, which led Abbot to acknowledge a ‘tragedy,’ likely referring to the real-life suicide bombing at the hospital that year.
So, is this a survivor dealing with PTSD, or something else entirely?
10. Will Robby Survive His North American Sabbatical Adventure?
Will Robby actually take his sabbatical? Dana and Abbot don’t seem convinced he can handle being off for three months.
For that matter, Robby can’t even remember the last time he took a vacation.
He’s supposed to clock out and hit the road on a motorcycle trip across North America, a journey meant to give him the calm and clarity he can’t find at home.
But whether he’s truly seeking rest or a more permanent escape remains to be seen.
At the end of The Pitt Season 1, Robby stood dangerously close to the edge of the roof before Abbot talked him down.
At the start of Season 2, he rode into work without a helmet. Then, in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 9, he asked Whitaker to house-sit in his absence, adding, “If I don’t come back, you’ve got a swingin’ bachelor pad.”
Abbot is clearly worried about Robby and doesn’t hide it. He points out that three months off is a long stretch for self-reflection and wonders if Robby can really handle it.
Robby stays quiet, leaving all that worry hanging in the air.
Abbot continued, “You just make sure you come back. And if it gets dark, you call me.”
For me, the real question isn’t whether Robby will take his sabbatical but whether he’ll survive it.
9. Is Samira Staying in Pittsburgh or Heading Back to New Jersey?
Is Samira actually heading back to New Jersey, or is Pittsburgh going to keep her tied up for a while?
At the start of The Pitt Season 2, senior resident Samira Mohan had her post-residency plan all mapped out with Dr. Cassie McKay.
She had committed to a partnership-track position at a hospital in New Jersey so she could stay close to her mom.
But just like that, her carefully planned future started to wobble. Her mother was getting married, selling the house, and planning a year-long cruise with a man she’d known only a few months.
Lowkey, it felt like Samira had her whole life and career already plotted out, all revolving around heading back to New Jersey.
She imagined going back, finding a relationship, and then figuring out when to have kids. That’s why she never really settled in Pittsburgh.
When that plan starts to crumble, it shakes her completely, leaving her feeling lost and unsure of what to do next.
In The Pitt Season 2 Episode 8, Samira told Al-Hashimi she was thinking about applying for a PTMC fellowship, and her superior suggested geriatrics.
But by The Pitt Season 2 Episode 10, Abbot had already left before she could get a letter of recommendation.
Add a flurry of calls from her mom, and it triggered a full-blown panic attack, which meant Robby, who wasn’t exactly stable himself, had to chew her out.
At this point, whether Samira stays or leaves might not even be up to her. It looks like it’s going to remain an open question heading into The Pitt Season 3.
8. Will Langdon Stay at PTMC or Walk Away After His Mistakes?
Langdon’s at a crossroads, and it’s hard to tell if he’s sticking around PTMC or quietly planning his exit.
By The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7, he finally grabs a moment to own up to Robby for all the mistakes he made, shouting over a helicopter just how sorry he is, and swearing it won’t happen again.
That apology might clear the air a bit, but whether it’s enough to keep him in the ER is still up in the air.
Robby told him he was glad he went to rehab and got the help he needed, but he’s still not sure he wants Langdon working in his ER.
That little hesitation seemed to throw Langdon off once they went back downstairs.
If Robby actually takes his sabbatical, it could give Langdon a few months to get back into the flow without Robby looking over his shoulder.
But whether he wants to stick around long enough to face Robby again, or if he can even work alongside Santos during that time, is still unclear.
“It gets to a point later [in Season 2] where he’s very unsure about a risky procedure, and Robby gives him some tough love to get him past his indecision,” Gemmill shared with TVLine.
“Whether that’s handled properly is the question.”
And then there’s the elephant in the room: very few people know Langdon stole Louie’s Librium.
Can a secret like that really stay buried forever? I believe, maybe it’s smarter for him to cut his losses and finish his residency somewhere else.
7. Can Santos Survive the Challenges of Her Second Residency Year?
Now, let’s talk about Dr. Trinity Santos. She’s barely a few days into her second year of residency and already feeling like she’s drowning.
Even though she’s one of Dr. Robby’s most promising residents, charting is taking way more time than she expected.
Al-Hashimi has already warned her that falling behind could mean repeating her R2 year, which is definitely not the kind of news you want at the start of a shift.
On top of that, Santos isn’t exactly in the best headspace. Her relationship, or maybe it’s better described as a situationship, with Dr. Yolanda Garcia is more complicated than she thought.
She’s also dealing with Langdon’s return and having to report to the same senior resident who scolded her on day one and basically told her she didn’t belong.
And it’s not just professional stress. Santos survived childhood sexual abuse, and she’s been skipping sessions with the hospital’s trauma counselor.
During a trip to the bathroom in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7, we also noticed she has a history of cutting herself, and not all of the scars appeared to be old.
So the big question is, can she make it through her second year without breaking?
6. Will Victoria Javadi Choose Emergency Medicine or Another Path?
Victoria Javadi walked back into the ED with fresh energy this season. Ten months after Pittfest, she seems more confident, capable, and, at least at first, steady on her feet.
But of course, her parents haven’t let up. Dr. Eileen Shamsi made it clear she thinks Javadi, just days from turning 21, is squandering her potential in emergency medicine and should aim for surgery instead.
Then, in Episode 7, we finally meet her dad, PTMC physician Raymond Javadi, who takes her to the head of dermatology to make sure she’s considering every option.
And if that weren’t enough, she nearly lets a patient, Mrs. Burns, slip through the cracks. Garcia even calls her out as a “nepo baby”.
That little nudge might have shaken any confidence she’d gained from her brief TikTok fame as ‘Dr. J’.
Now I’m left wondering whether Javadi will stick with emergency medicine or rethink her entire path.
5. Will Dr. Mel King Handle Her Tumultuous Work and Personal Life?
Dr. Mel King has been juggling a lot, and I’m not sure how much more she can take without cracking.
In The Pitt Season 2 Episode 8, she got a break when Dr. Ellis, also named in the malpractice suit, returned from her deposition and told Mel she still had to go to hers, but seemed in the clear.
The lawsuit came from the mother of the measles patient at the end of Season 1 after her son suffered intellectual decline, but test results showed the spinal tap wasn’t to blame.
Even so, Gemmill warned (via TVLine) that Ellis’ reassurance wouldn’t necessarily make Mel feel steady for the rest of her shift. “As the season goes on, the deposition doesn’t go as well for Mel as we had hoped.”
By The Pitt Season 2 Episode 10, she returned downstairs with the hospital attorney, who called the deposition “the most unprofessional… I’ve ever witnessed.”
She’s been told it won’t affect her career, but you can tell it’s rattling her.
Adding to the stress, her twin sister Becca shows up and casually drops that she has a UTI thanks to “lots of sex” with a previously unknown boyfriend, Adam.
Mel is trying to manage her professional responsibilities while dealing with personal curveballs, and it’s a wonder she’s still standing.
4. Will Dr. Cassie McKay Make It to Her Date on Time?
Cassie McKay actually tried to put her personal life first back in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 4, which is rare for her.
She agreed to meet Brian, a patient she treated earlier, at an art museum after her shift.
But then PTMC went “analog” thanks to a cyberattack, and everything slowed down with paper charting.
Will Cassie actually make it to her date, or will the hospital keep her chained to her charts?
3. What Will Happen to Baby Jane Doe?
Seriously, who just abandons a baby?
Baby Jane Doe is surprisingly resilient. She’s taking formula like a champ, and I even got a little soft watching her respond to Santos’ lullaby.
But you can’t help wondering what’s next. Will she finally find a permanent home? Are there more surprises waiting for her in the back-and-forth of PTMC?
Well, it’s hard not to get invested in her little storyline because she’s already stolen more than a few scenes.
2. Will Dana Evans Find a Reason to Keep Returning to PTMC?
Dana Evans just can’t seem to stay away from PTMC, and I get it because sometimes the place becomes more than a job, as it’s where you feel like you matter.
After what happened to her in The Pitt Season 1, she took a few weeks off, but it’s clear she didn’t fully process any of it.
You could see that uncertainty pop up again toward the end of The Pitt Season 2 Episode 6, when Dana walked Emma through cleaning Louie’s body.
That’s a part of the job most people never see, and it’s heavy stuff. When Emma asked, “Why do you keep coming back?” Dana didn’t have an answer.
Katherine LaNasa explained to TVLine, “I think she came back [after the assault] because this is where she has her sense of purpose, where she finds meaning in her life, where she knows that she’s useful and important in a way that really matters, when people are in their worst days, having their largest traumas.”
But it’s complicated! Everything Dana’s been through leaves her constantly questioning herself.
Even though she seems grateful when she oversees Alanna’s rape exam, I keep wondering if that’s enough to keep her coming back, or if she’s still searching for a reason that feels hers fully.
1. Could Duke Die in The Pitt Season 2 Finale?
Oh man, just thinking about Duke even being in danger makes my stomach twist.
He’s been such a grounding force for Robby, and it would feel like a punch to the gut if the show just wiped him out.
But then again, this is The Pitt, and we all know it doesn’t shy away from gut-punching moments.
Redditor @FyreFlye23 had me squirming with that idea about Whitaker. Sure, he’s more confident now, but he’s still green, still figuring things out, and mistakes in the ER happen in a heartbeat.
One second, everything is fine, and the next… well, we could be staring at a disaster. It would be brutal, but it also lines up with how messy and heavy Robby’s season has been.
Losing Duke might push him to rethink everything: from his priorities, his friendships, even why he’s doing this job in the first place.
I keep flipping back and forth between hoping the theory is wrong and thinking it would actually make sense for the story.
