First of all, I am very happy that something happened between Frederick and Anna. As much as it hasn’t ended with them being together, it did sort of end with a ‘someday’ for them. They were so cute together for all of this episode, also they constantly stand incredibly close.
They were flirting so heavily for the entirety of this episode. Both of the UAP conversations had so much tension in them.
I really loved them both showing a level of vulnerability to each other. Especially when Stanton asks if she’s worried around him, and she admits that she’s not. Although I think my favourite scene of them so far in this season was their quips back and forth about liking each other. The chemistry was so high in that scene, they were just spilling all of their feelings, and it was perfect.
I actually don’t mind where the episode ended with them because I don’t think Anna is ready for a serious relationship, and that’s why they are backing off from each other. They know that they wouldn’t be in a casual relationship, and I think that shows such a high level of maturity from them both. To say that they care about each other but knowing if they want something real between them, then they have to wait makes it all the more interesting to watch.
And as a huge lover of cinematography, that scene of their two cars driving in opposite directions and exiting the frame at the same time was a masterpiece.
I really enjoyed watching Stanton and Anna work together to resolve which of these three men was actually Matt Skweikis. It just showed how good Anna is at her job, but also that she could definitely be working in a much higher role in law enforcement outside of the park. Which is why I think her being a park ranger is so intriguing, because it truly is that she is just running from a life that she doesn’t want to confront.
I think it was great that the episode ended with Mira getting some closure on her husband, and it coming from Anna was such a great choice. I have a feeling that it will be a good use of foreshadowing when Anna inevitably is the one to find out what happened to Zach. She might be trying to hide from that life now, but her curiosity and determination to find the truth no matter what will force her to face it at some point.
It was only a very small scene, but I loved that we got to see a Native story being told by Zoey. I think the show being set in a national park allows for those sorts of scenes to be done in such a great way, and to have representation of that is so cool.
I truly never expected the end of this episode to happen.
I knew that Jessie was serious about Anna, but I could not have seen him admitting to loving her. I think the irony of the fact that Anna just called off something that could be serious with Stanton because she had a casual thing going with Jessie makes the scene slightly funny.
I do feel for Jessie so much because he truly just wants to be with Anna, and all that Anna wanted was a casual fling. I am so interested to see where she lands with his proposal to move in at the top of the next episode. I wonder if she will try to go down the serious route with Jessie or if she will let him down gently or as usual choose avoidance.
With only three episodes left of the season and so much more story to explore, I am so excited for what is to come.
