While Louisa Gavin and Sheriff Mark Mylow broke up in Best Medicine’s series premiere, the two share one of the most genuine and relatable relationships on the series.
They both care about each other and the Port Wenn community, and want to pass those values on to the next generation.
While I knew Louisa’s biological clock began ticking, I hadn’t guessed that Mark wanted children until his face lit up like a candle when he held the Norwegians’ twins.

Mark always seemed more like a goofy big kid, but sometimes those people make the best parents because they understand children better.
While Mark’s suggestion that he and Louisa have a baby together may be odd, I’m excited to see where it leads.
Louisa and Mark Would Make Wonderful Parents
Louisa and Mark would make wonderful parents and likely be known as the “cool parents.”
I’ve always thought Louisa would be a great mom since she was nurturing with her students, especially Peter.

But she was just as efficient at reining in the teens without making them feel stupid.
Even the teens thought Mark and Louisa would make cool parents, but that was partly because of their reaction when they bailed the group out of jail.
They seemed like the type who understood rites of passage.
However, people don’t just pop out teenagers unless they adopt, so if they become parents, it will likely be to an infant.

Mark was so adorable when he gushed over Singrid’s twins.
She seemed cold and calculating while he appeared more like a proud parent, and Louisa looked nostalgic for what she might never experience.
That’s partly why I hope they experience it together.
It’s Time for More Nontraditional Families – And I’m Excited About How It’ll Change Louisa and Mark’s Relationship
I love how Best Medicine Season 1 kept Mark in Louisa’s orbit and explored why they were still the best of friends, building a different kind of triangle.

Josh Segarra and Abigail Spencer exhibited such a believable connection that the pairing felt like they were close friends on and off-screen.
While I love Louisa with Martin, there’s something nostalgic about Louisa and Mark. They grew up in Port Wenn and understand the importance of upholding those traditions.
It’s sweet and annoying that they knew each other so well, and everyone else was in their business.
I appreciate that modern medicine has advanced to the point where Louisa doesn’t need a boyfriend to have a baby, but it would be nice to have emotional support while raising the child.

Not to be crass, but this way she’d know where the sperm came from instead of choosing from a sperm bank and doing IVF.
Not that many shows have featured co-parenting with your best friend, and even then, it’s in extreme circumstances, like on Baby Daddy or, currently, Will Trent.
I’m excited to see the process and decisions from the beginning, and to see whether Louisa and Mark stay close friends or if something shifts.
I’m excited that Best Medicine is considering going a nontraditional route and having them have a baby together.
The Best Medicine Season 2 teasers hint at a time jump, meaning we’ll learn early on which route Louisa has decided to take.
