It’s part of the charm and how people show they care.
Louisa had already endured the brunt of that when she broke her engagement to Mark. She hadn’t expected one kiss with Martin to incite such curiosity.
However, she didn’t realize Mark had witnessed the kiss between her and Martin, and he told almost everyone how they wronged him, making it juicy gossip on Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 11.
Even when Martin suspected an outbreak of the plague, the Port Wenn residents were more concerned about Louisa’s love life than about dying.
Small town living at its finest.
Martin and Louisa’s Kiss Was Hot News
I’m unsure which was funnier, Martin’s or Louisa’s reaction as their kiss was dissected throughout town.
Martin hadn’t lived in a small town before, so he wasn’t prepared for people to pester him about kissing Louisa or joke that he broke Mark’s heart.
All Martin ever wanted was to be left alone and practice medicine, and now he couldn’t take back the kiss because it was the number one topic of conversation.
Welcome to the big leagues, Doc.
I think Louisa suffered more. She had already endured gossip after breaking her engagement to Mark, and then Martin humiliated her by suggesting they pretend their kiss never happened.
She couldn’t even visit the Salty Breeze without her friends harassing her about Martin’s kissing skills.
It was so hilarious that she hid in the freezer to avoid her friends. I couldn’t blame her since she looked overwhelmed and truly horrified when she learned Mark knew.
Mark Felt Betrayed Because Martin Lacked Relationship Skills
I was totally Team Mark. He had every right to feel angry and betrayed, though he could have handled it better than by spreading gossip. That hurt Louisa, too, and it seemed his ire was directed at Martin.
At first, Mark seemed like a petulant child because he wouldn’t tell Martin why he was angry, and then he involved everyone, acting as if he had lost faith in them.
That investigative style worked for this case, but it didn’t fit Mark. He’s goofy and fun-loving. He’s not mean and distrustful.
Mark was the exact opposite of Martin. He thought of the patients stuck in the medical office and brought food, not caring that he’d be exposed to the plague, too.
I laughed at how often he kept reminding Martin of how angry he was, but he stepped up to help because Port Wenn was his town, and he believed in taking care of people.
At the end of the day, Mark almost seemed more upset that Martin never admitted he liked Louisa.
It went against everything about bro code, but Martin hasn’t ever had a true friend. He’s lucky that Mark forgave him and admitted that Louisa was too special to forget.
The Zookeeper Spread the Plague, But Gave Good Advice
I’m relieved Copernicus didn’t have fleas that could have caused the plague. I feared he would be the cause.
Poor Martin. He’s seen it all in Port Wenn, including a flea-infested purse. Many of those patients came more because of the gossip and a remedy for the flu, but they got theirs.
They were stuck there until Martin could determine who actually had the plague and arrange for medication to be brought in from Boston.
I never expected to see Doug, the other boob man, again, but he had a baby fox, and it appeared to be patient zero. Doug really did need to choose better partners since he got screwed over.
Doug cared way more about Savannah than she did about her.
Savannah was delightful, even if she infected six people. She convinced Elaine that she could have everything she wanted.
It was hilarious to watch her chase her dream and see how eager people were to help her perform her monologue.
Savannah really should become a therapist. She noticed how lonely Copernicus seemed, and that Martin disliked revealing his feelings, and he would lose his loved ones if he stayed all buttoned up.
She’s feisty and honest, and she didn’t seem to care about the harm she left in her trail. It’s a shame to waste someone like her in jail.
Louisa’s True Ephinany Shocked Everyone and Highlighted Her Relationships
I’m a sucker for male-female friendships, and I love how George always looks out for Louisa. He’d do anything for her.
Ironically, showing her those cute wolf videos stirred something up inside her.
Louisa had been in a relationship with Mark for years, but it didn’t work, and her school may close. She probably thought she would have been married with kids by now.
She might not have any children in her life now, and Louisa was made to nurture others.
I’m not overly surprised she wanted to be a mom, but that the wolf and wolf cub videos triggered her enough to consider doing it on her own.
I loved that George was the first to offer support in any way. He really is her number one and like family, even though everyone in Port Wenn adores her.
I suspect that’s why she turned Martin down, because she needed to focus on her well-being, and gossip wouldn’t help her or the future pregnancy.
I’m anxious to see how Best Medicine will address Louisa having a baby alone in a small town, if she’ll contemplate adoption, IVF, or use a sperm donor.
Martin Realized Who Was Important in His Life
While I rooted for Martin and Louisa from the beginning of Best Medicine, I don’t blame her for thinking of herself.
Martin still found the courage to admit he cared about her.
More than that, he finally claimed Copernicus as his dog. It was a long time coming as he gave him a collar.
Perhaps the dog will be less depressed now that he feels wanted. Dogs really are man’s best friend, so I’m anxious to see if having this companion will boost Martin’s morale, too.
