Firstly, it was great to see Burgess go undercover again. I’ve missed being able to see a different side to her, especially since she is normally someone who tries to have everything together. However, I think it made the episode better that she did get burned; she wasn’t in a good space to go undercover, and it may not have been her fault that she got burned, but it certainly could have been.
Plus Marina Squerciati thrives in this types of episodes.
I really wasn’t that much of a fan of the dripping water background storyline, mostly because I thought that the sound might stop once she turned off the tap after finding Munson. I don’t really feel the need to watch her stress over whatever that sound is, and I definitely hated that last bit where we kept zooming in on her face further and further. It was quite off-putting, which was obviously the aim but a bit too off-putting for my liking.
I did like seeing that maybe the grass isn’t always greener with Burzek moving house. Then to have Burgess be the one that isn’t loving it instead of Adam, who would be the one expected to not like it, makes it even better. I do just want to see them all have a safe place that they can call home and not have to feel like they need to escape from the house they live in.
Donovan seems to be fitting into the team well; I enjoyed the subtleties that came from his body language and words in this episode. By the time Burgess went undercover, it seemed like he had only been in the unit for less than a day, yet he was able to be a great partner for her immediately.
I think part of the reason why I wasn’t that engaged in this episode is because I could kind of guess where it was going. It was obvious that Burgess was going to be burned, I knew Didi was going to die and honestly I didn’t like her character enough to be upset that it was going to happen, and I knew that Munson would be killed too.
Normally with a Chicago PD episode, I can generally guess where the episode will end up but I will be entirely wrong which is one of the things I love the most about the show. I could have done with one more twist like Munson not getting killed, and that’s the reason why Burgess still hears the dripping.
Side note, their neighbour is definitely sketchy and I do not trust him one bit.
All in all, it was a good episode and I did enjoy it, and I definitely loved having a Burgess-centred episode. I am looking forward to seeing if Adam and Kim can settle into this house and make it a home, or if this is temporary.
