Season 13 was my favourite season of Chicago PD so far, and Season 14 hasn’t pulled its foot off the gas yet. I could not be happier with this first episode of the season.
The start of this episode was so funny. I love seeing Voight just be irrationally annoyed. His relationship with Trudy is so good, even though they are arguing, you can just tell that there is so much respect and such a deep bond between the two of them.
Normally, my favourite part of a Chicago PD episode would be a fight sequence, but in this episode, it came at the end of this back-and-forth between Voight and Trudy. Trudy taking the box away from Ocean as he was walking into the bull pen and saying “staplers, god no, he’ll use them on you” had me bursting into laughter. I was still stuck on how funny it was even after the episode ended.
We got straight into the answer of whether or not Imani chose to bury what happened with her sister or not, and I am so glad she chose to bury it. As much as I loved the bond between her and Hank last season, I don’t want her to be another female character that forms a deep attachment to Voight and ends up doing something the original her would never do. However, I do think that it also shows some level of growth for Voight. Even the fact that he let Imani be the one to choose what to do with Shari is miles away from how he used to act.
Last season, there was a small glimpse of Imani and Dante, but this episode gave me real hopes that we are going to see them be partnered up more. Imani has been reckless since the moment that we met her, but seeing her stand in front of Ocean’s gun was something else. I love that it didn’t turn into a lecture on why that was stupid and that it was actually used as a way to grow closer, knowing that they have each other’s backs.

Kim and Adam weren’t as heavily featured during this episode; however, that doesn’t mean that we forego information about their lives. We officially find out that they have moved house, even if it is just a small comment about them being surrounded by boxes all the time. It’s nice to know that we will get to see them in a new home at some point this season.
Chicago PD as a whole does a really good job of making us be attached to characters even if they haven’t been around for that long, and for me, Shari is one of those people. It was so heartbreaking to watch Imani find out that she had been taken off the visitors list; although strangely, I actually think that in the long run, that will actually help out the sisters’ relationship.
If Shari can heal and maybe unlock some of the repressed memories that she has about her past without Imani always being there, then that would be great. I do think we are going to see this hit Imani quite hard over the course of the season when she doesn’t know what is going on with her sister.
The main case for this episode was actually pretty dark. I am really glad it turned out the way it did, though. Especially the team taking away Lindell’s ability to not go to prison and take the easy way out.

I could not talk about this episode without saying, “ KEV IS GOING TO BE A DAD!” I am so upset that we have to lose him this season, but I am so happy that we get to see him becoming a dad. That last scene of him finding out that Fox had gone into labour was so cute, to see him get all flustered about it even though at the start of the episode he was acting all calm. I really like that Ruzek is the one to drive him to the hospital too; their bond has been great to watch unfold over the 14 seasons. I think the audience is just as excited for Kev to be a dad as the rest of the team are.
Of course, the team needs to have some level of conflict this season, and what better way to do that than to plonk an FBI agent in their offices? Something tells me that this isn’t going to end well. I didn’t like him when he first bumped into Hank, and I certainly didn’t like that evil smile that he gave at the end of the episode.
Once again, this was an absolutely amazing start to season 14. I can’t wait to see where we land ourselves at the start of the next episode!
