Devil in Silver Episode 2 Leaves Me Questioning Everyone

It feels like everyone is in on the mystery of The Terror: Devil in Silver Episode 2.

Pepper is struggling to deal with everything that’s happening to him, and not just the fact that he’s being drugged up every day, making it impossible for him to be “compliant.”

There’s something supernatural behind the walls, and nobody wants to talk about it.

Coffee and Dorry Know Something Is Going On

I was always suspicious of the nurses and orderlies at the institution.

Of course, the staff would know that there was something dark and dangerous within the walls — or more like, behind that silver door.

However, it turns out that others likely know about it too, but not all of them are as compliant as it would initially seem.

When Coffee and Pepper first meet during The Terror: Devil in Silver premiere, Coffee asks for a quarter, and it’s not quite clear why.

People are even giving him quarters here and there, and we finally see what that is about.

He’s making phone calls on the payphone.

It’s a little wild that the payphones are real payphones and require money when many of these inmates wouldn’t have access to quarters.

We even get to see how they can get money to pay for their calls, and it’s all thanks to the people who visit from the outside.

I would argue that this is so the staff can keep a lid on the supernatural events and the monstrosities that occur within the institution. They wouldn’t want someone like Coffee making a phone call.

However, we get to see Coffee calling someone, and it’s not the first time.

He’s been trying to alert people on the outside to everything that is happening in this place, and nobody is listening.

Of course, the staff was never going to have to worry, because who would believe anyone on the inside of a psychiatric hospital?

It reminds me a little of Liberty Street by Heather Marshall, which all starts because someone gets a letter about the illegal and despicable acts happening inside the women’s prison. People aren’t paying attention to or believing them because of who they are.

The Terror: Devil in Silver continues to remind us of the power imbalance and further the horror of human nature.

Coffee is trying hard to get the word out there, and he has a plan to call the President, but can they ever be believed, and is there a way to escape the evil that’s inside?

It doesn’t look like he really believes there is a way.

He and Dorry both seem to know that there is something far more sinister than the staff, and Dorry seems to want to keep Pepper there.

Coffee was threatened by someone who sounded a little like the doctor we met at the end of the first episode of The Terror Season 3, and they’re surely not the only two patients who know the truth.

The patients’ secrets and actions are what I’m latching onto right now, because I want to figure out the mysteries before the end.

Scotch Tape also clearly knows that there’s something going on, and he finally seems to want to help Pepper in a small way. It’s about time, but how long will it last?

Pepper Has a Son?

I do feel for Pepper right now.

Everything is being thrown at him.

He ended up in this institution that he didn’t even need to be in, all because of some terrible cops, and then he was forced to stay longer, all because he was medicated into being “non-compliant.”

Yet, nobody is listening to any of this. Nobody cares about what’s going on.

Marisol is more focused on the money spent on the drum kit, her ex-husband, and the fact that Pepper’s time in the institution has been extended, so she’s not paying attention to anything Pepper says.

Sure, it doesn’t help that Pepper apparently has a son and that son has turned up, but Marisol annoyingly jumps straight to attacking Pepper instead of asking some necessary questions.

My first set of questions would be:

• Did you know you have a son?
• Are you in a fit state to discuss this right now?
• If you knew you had a son, was there a legitimate reason not to have any contact with him or tell me about him?

Instead, she’s already made up her mind, and I have to wonder why Pepper was even with her in the first place.

Yes, she’s frustrated. She didn’t even know where Pepper had been taken, and shouldn’t that have set off some alarm bells?

It would for me!

After seeing the attack and knowing the reasons for Pepper’s reaction, there’s no way, as Marisol, that I would take the authorities’ side, and I’m surprised that she has.

Of course, the entire arc is making it so that Pepper is on his own.

The more he’s pulled into the darkness of the facility and whatever supernatural evil is in there, the fewer people he has to latch onto on the outside to save him.

But while I know that’s the whole point of this, it annoys me that a woman who claims to have loved him would act like this.

I really want to believe that someone is getting into Marisol’s head on The Terror.

Yet, despite all my anger against the characters and all my annoyance at the secrets, I’m hooked. It’s not bad writing that makes me feel this way.

Instead, it’s due to excellent writing that portrays the realities of these medical facilities that are supposed to help people.

As Dorry notes about One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, people like her and the other patients are the “worst case scenario.” 

They are the ones others fear, and that is being portrayed with each minute of the hour.

It’s not just words, as we watch the darkness and secrets take over.

Of course, there are still the supernatural elements to figure out, such as who attacked Pepper during and at the end of the hour.

Is he the devil everyone knows, the one they’re trying to keep locked away?
