The Terror: Devil in Silver Episode 5 packs a powerful punch, as it brings a few more answers and another heartbreaking death.

It’s clear that nobody is safe for as long as this beast is allowed to feed off the pain and fear of other people.

Is there any way to stop it now that people are finally listening to those they disregarded for so long? It may be too little, too late.

Dorry’s Backstory Packs a Heartbreaking Gutpunch

From the very first episode of The Terror: Devil in Silver, it was clear that Dorry would play a major role.

She was right at the door to welcome Pepper in, and she took it upon herself to show him around and make sure he got settled.

Of course, over the series, we learned that she knew exactly who and what was behind the silver door, and The Terror: Devil in Silver Episode 5 gave us more of her backstory.

After learning that she had a lobotomy and that she was able to communicate with the deceased Dr. Walter, we finally got to see when he took her under her wing.

Absolutely not changing one bit — furthering the confirmation that he is, in fact, dead — Dr. Walter was the one to encourage Dorry to stay in the facility.

Nowadays, we know that Dorry was likely suffering from something like bipolar disorder, but in the 1960s, there wasn’t a chance that anyone would consider that she just needed some medication to help balance her moods.

Instead, she was locked away in a facility. It was a time when women barely had any rights, especially when it came to medical decisions like this. Of course, the men thought they knew better.

Sure, we can be angry that Dorry would act upon the devil’s wishes, but how much control did she have?

Not only did she come from a time when she had no say, but she also grew up in a facility where she was told when to take her medication, when to go to bed, and what she was allowed to read.

Since this beast can seemingly become anyone it has killed, it was always going to lure Dorry in, and, arguably, Dorry has simply tried to protect everyone else in the facility.

In the sneak peek for The Terror: Devil in Silver Episode 5 that we showed, she asked Pepper when he had ever lived for somebody he loves, and I think this was a hint that she has been doing that for decades.

She has been trapped with this beast since the 1960s, and she is living every day to protect those around her.

That came to an end as the episode came to a close, with Dorry finally breaking free — both from the facility and the creature’s control.

It’s an absolutely heartbreaking end, but at the same time, I’m sure there’s a level of peace that comes with it for Dorry.

After all, it turned out that the sounds of the woman crying from The Terror: Devil in Silver Episode 3 were a past version of her — a version of her who died in the 1960s when she went through the lobotomy.

That part of Dorry has been stuck in these walls with her, and that’s a heavy burden to bear.

Nurse Chris Finally Realizes the Truth

The main focus of The Terror Season 3 episode is the aftermath of Coffee’s death, which we don’t have time to fully mourn with so much packed into the hour.

Finally, one of the bigwigs has come in to find out what happened that night. How was it possible that Coffee was behind that silver door, and why was it that the cops opened fire on him?

(Emily V. Aragones/AMC)

These are all the right questions, but this is something that should have been looked into long before it reached this tragic end.

Nurse Chris points out that underfunding has been a huge problem, and it certainly is. That doesn’t excuse the way the staff has looked down on the patients for so long.

The way the patients stuck to their story of being in their rooms the night that it happened made me smile. They are all finally learning the system, including Pepper!

Of course, New Hyde can’t just be shut down. There’s no way this beast would allow that, and that means Dr. Anand has to find a way to help.

There’s a slight change in his personality as he learns how the patients will be moved, but something about it doesn’t feel genuine.

(Emily V. Aragones/AMC)

If it is, at what point did he turn his back on helping the patients? At what point has he regretted that choice?

As Dorry realizes he made a deal with the beast, it’s hard to even think he would ever have wanted to help the patients. His focus has been on helping the beast.

The only saving grace now is Nurse Chris, and even then, I don’t trust her or like her. Why did it take the death of Coffee for her to finally change her mindset?

While we learn that she never did know who the man behind the silver door really was, there’s something about the way she pulled the beast off Pepper just two episodes ago that doesn’t sit right.

(Emily V. Aragones/AMC)

What did she see that night that she and Scotch Tape had to pull the creature off? Wouldn’t she have seen what Coffee saw, or does this supernatural monster have a different form for everyone to see at the same time?

This really is a case of too little, too late, and not just to save the patients of New Hyde. There is no time for her redemption without a damn good explanation for her actions as of late.

What The Terror: Devil in Silver Episode 5 has done is set up for a thrilling series finale. Next Thursday cannot come soon enough!
