Hulu has dropped the official trailer for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, a four-episode event series that picks up 20 years after the Malcolm in the Middle series finale.
The cult classic is back, and it’s poised to put Malcolm in even more awkward situations than before.
The first-look footage showcases the family as dysfunctional as ever, with one big omission:
Malcolm has exiled himself from everyone and is focused on his own life with his daughter, Leah, and girlfriend, Tristan.
The trailer shows that Malcolm’s overbearing parents, Hal and Lois, have had enough and are ready to do whatever it takes to be part of their son’s life again.
What we don’t get is how Malcolm became so ostracized by everyone, but it must have been a long time since we saw Leah meeting the family during a Zoom call.
Then there’s Malcolm, who casually lets slip to a stunned Tristan that he has brothers. Yeah, it seems like he straight-up forgot everyone existed.
It’s a decent enough hook, but not one that can sustain an entire series, so the four-episode limited engagement works much better.

Elsewhere, another TV institution has some big news to share.
The Family Guy franchise is expanding, and this time, one of the Griffins is getting their own spinoff.
Deadline has reported that FOX and Hulu have closed a deal to pick up two seasons of Stewie.
The two outlets are co-producing the show, which will follow Stewie’s adventures as he moves to a new preschool.
Disillusioned with how boring it is, he takes it upon himself to liven things up.
The good news for fans of Family Guy is that the series will co-exist on Fox’s schedule, and Stewie’s presence isn’t expected to diminish on the mothership.
The last time Family Guy got the spinoff treatment, it followed Cleveland Brown to a new location as he started a new life.
The character had a handful of appearances in the original series before returning full-time when The Cleveland Show got canceled.
Meanwhile, on CBS, the Yellowstone franchise will be putting down roots for a bit longer.
CBS confirmed Marshals has been renewed for Season 2.
The pickup comes after Marshals Season 1 Episode 1 reached 20.6 million viewers.
Given Yellowstone’s success, it was inevitable that this show would get a second season.
The biggest hurdle was whether fans would warm to a procedural entry in the franchise.
It turns out they did, and CBS is thrilled with the results.
“MARSHALS delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series,” said Amy Reisenbach, president, CBS Entertainment, in a statement.
“The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”
Marshals continues Sundays at 8/7c on CBS.
