I genuinely don’t know if there could have been a better start to the season than this episode, I quite literally loved pretty much every single aspect of it. Even the bits I didn’t like were bits that were actually perfect.
I always love when we get to start halfway through an episode and backtrack to find out how we landed ourselves there. I think this was such a great device for everything to make sense without making it be a full spoken out conversation between everyone.
We find out pretty quickly that three months have passed between when we last saw the team and OA went on his unsanctioned op. Three months, I feel is a good amount of time to have passed for us to be able to know why OA is so affected by his time doing this op.
I could not have been happier with the way that OA acted throughout this episode, I definitely had some reservations about what would have happened to OA when he is put in the situations that he clearly has been in over the last three months. Literally nothing about his character and personality has changed other than him being agitated with having to stay undercover at the end of the episode.
I know that OA is definitely going to blame himself for what happened, however I am relieved that so far the worst thing that he has done is leave someone in a room on their own. He has made sure not to cross the line, and even when pushed to he still doesn’t do it.
I massively enjoyed watching Maggie and OA reunite in both situations, the relief on both of their faces when they first saw each other was so amazing. Plus the added bit of excitement that they had with each other was so cute, we’ve always known that their bond is incredible but it’s nice to see that despite not talking a word to each other for three months that they are more close than ever. The fact that they let their guard down and talked even though Isaiah was right there showed how much they needed to see each other at that moment.
I really did hate having to see OA pistol whip Maggie, but his reaction of touching it and making sure she was okay despite having a time sensitive reason to talk to her was great. I just could not love their bond more.
I am definitely biased because no one but OA should be Maggie’s partner but I really don’t like Isaiah. I know it is probably quite a lot on Maggie’s end that they haven’t bonded yet but the fact that he hasn’t even probed to find out what Maggie’s coffee order is, is just insane. No matter what job you work in, tea or coffee preferences of those you work with are the first few things that you learn about someone and after three months he can’t even do that is wild to me.
I did really like watching Maggie and Isaiah slowly get back on better terms but I’m pretty sure that only really happens because he saved them by being able to fly the helicopter. I’m also not a fan of how he tries to make Maggie feel guilty about not trusting him, as far as we can tell the only reason she has to trust him is today and before that he is just the ADIC’s nephew.
Last season we watched Eva and Scola slowly start to let each other in and I really loved that you could see over the last three months their bond has grown massively, and she went to see Dougie! Their ability to have fun together and protect each other at all times was so awesome to watch. I’m so happy that they managed to work through their original issues and have become a great duo together.
We got a small crossover with CIA which was nice as well, clearly Jubal and Nikki have a little bit of a rapport going which is cool to see.
The final scene of Isobel and OA truly tugged at my heartstrings, you could just tell how exhausted and ready to leave OA was. OA is absolutely at his wits end after Devin dies and you honestly can’t blame him for hoping that the end of this op was near for him.
I am so excited to see where we go with OA’s further investigation and with the rest of the team back at 26 Fed.
