Well, that’s one way to shake things up.
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 6 was bursting at the seams with twists and turns, and for a 30-minute episode, it genuinely made the best use of its time.
Something told me that Murray Bartlett’s Dennis would be the series’ antagonist for at least the entirety of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1.

I was genuinely gobsmacked by how the episode played out for him because I never pegged him as someone who would underestimate anyone.
He’s mastered the playbook of thinking multiple steps ahead. It makes sense, then, that Paula took him out by using the element of surprise.
Paula has continually escaped his grasp to the point that her very existence infuriates him.
It was unsettling how he let himself into her apartment, helped himself to her daughter’s snacks, and even used the Etch A Sketch.

I mean, what the hell was that?
He was so comfortable in his belief that no matter how much he relaxed in her home, he’d be able to kill her before she had a chance to react.
Dennis Met His Match on Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed
It’s always satisfying when these kinds of plots play out with the person being pursued outsmarting their pursuer.
I gave Paula a lot of flak for selling Sky’s chain for the gun on Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 5, but in hindsight, it saved her life.

And to think, she probably wouldn’t have gone into the safe to get the gun had Karl not arrived at her pizza party to dole out some insults.
It’s easy to see Karl’s viewpoint. These photos from the private investigator don’t paint Paula in the best light.
Seeing a man in Paula’s apartment undoubtedly raised red flags because, as a father, he has a right to know who has access to his daughter.
Given that Paula has been making a whole array of erratic decisions, it would be on-brand for her not to tell Karl about a new man in her life.

But had Karl not called her out, Paula wouldn’t have pieced together that Dennis had been in her apartment and that it was no longer safe for Hazel.
Paula has witnessed bodies piling up thanks to Dennis, but somehow, she keeps escaping his grasp, and the net is closing in around her as far as the evidence is concerned.
While I expected something to happen to Paula as she walked back from the grocery store, I didn’t expect it to be that brutal.
The force he used against her was that of someone who wanted to kill her.

I figured she’d have gotten the gun before leaving the apartment, but I didn’t expect it to segue into her blowing Dennis’s brains out when he opened the trunk.
That came completely out of left field, and it will change the trajectory of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 for the better.
The series is unafraid to take big risks. My biggest question now is how Paula will bounce back and get the law and Karl back on her side.
Karl and Mallory could hold the key to freeing Paula if they hand over the photo of Dennis in her apartment. That’s assuming they got hard copies before Dennis killed the private investigator.

Paula would be wise to call the cops, but if her past actions are anything to go by, she’ll make a swift getaway from the scene.
If she actually trusted the law, she could have them on her side right about now, but she’d rather take matters into her own hands.
The Series Has Fantastic Momentum
I’m fascinated by not knowing where things are going, but I sincerely hope that whatever happens next continues to peel away at the bigger picture.
Very few shows take these kinds of risks, and it’d be a shame to see things fall apart.

With Dennis likely out of the mix, there’s bound to be someone else to take his place, someone who is probably much worse.
Dennis picked up many calls to these overlords throughout his half-season stint as the menacing villain, and they’ll want to clean up everything he worked on so that nothing points back to them.
As for Geri and Rudy, I’m digging their dynamic. They’re nosy as hell and have found themselves immersed in something that could derail their lives for good.
Seriously, they should have told Paula to do all of this digging by herself because they don’t know how deep in they truly are.

Despite the stakes, they’re slowly but surely getting more comfortable with one another.
It’s evident they have a lot of chemistry, and I’m starting to get the impression that their mutual interest in all of this drama is giving them a reason to spend more time together.
I hope it leads to something of note because the last thing I want is for them to become victims of whoever replaces Dennis.
As for Mallory, she’s losing me. The lengths she’s going to make Paula look bad are starting to feel more like an obsession than a genuine search for justice.

I get that she wants to leave town and start anew after her attack on Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Episode 3, but she isn’t letting the legal process play out.
She’s strongarming Paula and even Karl, and I suspect Karl will eventually get tired of it.
The illusion that Karl and Mallory’s relationship is strong is beginning to crack, and I’m rooting for it to happen.
I believe Mallory will realize Dennis was the one who attacked her and will point the finger at Paula for setting it up.

She’ll arrive at that theory thanks to the photo of Dennis in the apartment.
What are your thoughts on Paula killing Dennis, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Fanatics?
Are you on board with this twist? What’s your take on Mallory at this point? Has she gone too far?
