Mysteries, Married Life & Fun: Private Eyes West Coast Puts Shade & Angie Back on the Case

- Advertisment -

When Private Eyes ended in 2021, I hoped we’d see Shade and Angie again, but never gave it much thought.

I’m so excited that they’ll be back in a new spinoff, Private Eyes West Coast, which premieres on The CW on October 1.

The series capitalized on Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson’s chemistry and Shade and Angie’s relationship, which ended the original series with a long-awaited kiss.

Private Eyes West Coast occurs five years later, so in real time. While I would have enjoyed seeing some of their dating moments, I’m excited to see them solve cases as a married couple.

Their lives have changed so much in five years, and they didn’t think they’d be restarting their business, but it’s in their DNA.

Shade and Angie’s Marital Bliss with Extra Guests

When I initially heard West Coast, I thought California. But Private Eyes West Coast is still in Canada, only in Victoria, British Columbia.

They closed down their PI firm in Toronto and wanted a quieter life to enjoy married life and being full-time parents to their infant son, Declan.

Life is never that simple or quiet, though, because the series also added a surprise half-brother for Angie named Will.

Angie loves catching up with Will or having him babysit so she can enjoy private time with Shade, but Shade doesn’t sound as enthusiastic about the added family member who loves to pop on by.

Their life has been full of adjustments. Shade seems to like the quiet, while Angie hints their life has gotten too quiet.

What Prompts the Couple to Get Back in the Game?

I think Angie was itching to get back to work anyway, but when date night ends with a woman standing over her dead boyfriend, the couple gets pulled back in.

Angie’s gut says the woman is innocent, and Shade struggles to deny that his wife’s instincts are wrong.

The chase begins again, chasing leads all the way to the whale-watching docks.

Old habits die hard as Shade and Angie remember how rewarding it feels to help innocent people and nail the criminals.

You better watch out. Shade and Angie are back in business, and they’re watching you.

Are You Excited To See More of Shade and Angie?

I’m so excited to see more of Shade and Angie. Their banter and chemistry sold the original Private Eyes.

The new trailer already shows them going undercover, stealing evidence, and annoying the police. That’s what they do best, and it makes Private Eyes a more lighthearted procedural than some others.

While the series deals with some murders and stalkers, it will also highlight some unique cases, such as a diver attacked by a mermaid and a baseball card stolen at a House and Garden tour.

These cases will provide some levity, especially when Shade and Angie’s competitiveness and wittiness kick in.

I can’t wait to see them go undercover, especially since we’ll see Angie in her infamous red dress again.

Shade “fake-proposed” to her in that dress on a case, so that dress symbolizes a lot to their fans, and the series actually remembered that.

I wish some of their old allies were joining them. There’s been no word on Zoe, and Jules is away at college, so the couple will have to charm some new allies.

The teasers suggest that a college student and wannabe detective, Raine Atebe (Khamisa Wilsher), brings them a case about a missing student and impresses them with her hacking skills.

I suspect she’s the new Zoe, and hopefully, she’ll form the same camaraderie with them.
