Do you know what makes our most cherished television shows great at what they do? Consistency.
It’s the desire to consistently deliver on everything that makes it so good and satisfy the viewers that tune in regularly, and that’s exactly what RJ Decker knows how to do well.
And with some of the first peeks at what we can expect from the RJ Decker Season 2 premiere, it’s apparent that the series is doubling down on that beachy, quirky, sexy escapist fun that it does so well, and bringing in some backup too.
ABC has been getting pretty creative with its crossovers lately, and I’m tipping my hat to them.
Now, RJ Decker is cashing in on this phenomenon with a Dancing with the Stars crossover premiere that already has me fanning myself, and that’s not just because of a crush on a certain DWTS pro and heartthrob.
It’s Val Chmerkovskiy, by the way, who looks right at home on a beach with those luscious curls and a Hawaiian-style short set that looks like it could’ve easily been found in RJ’s closet, to be honest.
But let’s get back to the consistency thing, because one of the best things about RJ Decker right now is the simple fact that it’s a scripted drama that’s actually set to premiere in September, and early into it at that.
Once upon a time, that wasn’t anything worth gloating about. Still, given the frustrating trend of network television not even debuting most of its Fall slate until October, RJ Decker returning on September 15 is a huge deal!

It’s also one of the few scripted series for ABC in the Fall, given that the network likes to withhold some of its power players until midseason these days.
And ABC got creative in how it chose to celebrate one of its breakout new hit series: by setting up a crossover event with the juggernaut reality series that will premiere before it, Dancing with the Stars.
It’s a stroke of genius when you think about it. On the surface, it seems downright bizarre that they could even arrange a crossover event between a reality series and a scripted one.
But if any two series could pull off such a feat, it’s RJ Decker. It’s genuinely a fun series, quirky in its own right, with a breezy tone that opens itself up to bold endeavors.

Also, RJ Decker has such a strong artistic flair and is deeply cultural, as a series set in Fort Lauderdale with a dynamic Latine cast.
If this crossover just casually happens to include some of DWTS’ most dynamic faces slipping in a little Latin dance number, it’d feel right at home with RJ Decker, don’t you think?
Admittedly, I want to see some of my favorite pro dancers busting a move in one of my favorite ballroom styles on a beach somewhere, though, so don’t mind me.
In the teaser trailer, we do see a fun dance number, so that’s promising.
Presumably, DWTS pros Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy will be partaking in that. They’ll also be accompanied by mirror ball champion and The Bachelor alum Joey Graziadei.

It really is an ABC family affair!
We also see RJ take on a case with some bank robbers who use quite the distracting tactic (they’re pantless!) to throw tellers off while taking them for all they’re worth.
And the teaser also introduces a new character who is bound to stir up some trouble for RJ, and goodness knows that man loves some trouble.
But most of all, we get everything we’ve come to love about RJ Decker — everything that makes it prime comfort viewing.
RJ, with his trusty camera, looking scrumptious as ever and reminding us that there is real power in his ability to capture things behind a lens.

Wish, who is so often by RJ’s side, pulled into chases and investigations and embracing it along the way because when it comes to his best friend, he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
Wacky, wonderfully weird cases. Floridian culture at its finest, and sun-soaked fun.
I can’t think of anything better, can you?
